In 1958, Faltskog started singing in a local choir and took piano lessons. Two years later, she formed a group called the Cambers, and they would perform locally before dissolving due to a lack of opportunities. At the age of 15, she left school to fully pursue a music career.

While performing with a local dance band, she worked as a telephonist for a car firm, but would leave her job due to the band becoming popular locally. She recorded the song “I Was So in Love” and sent a demo of her band to a record company, but the producer was only interested in Agnetha and her song. She declined the offer, but then signed a recording contract with CBS Records. In 1967, she would release the song “I Was So In Love” which would boost her popularity significantly, becoming one of the most popular artists in Sweden, and started releasing more songs. In 1970, she released another successful song entitled “If Tears Were Gold”, and would then become part of a production of “Jesus Christ Superstar”. Her net worth was well established.

Faltskog then met Bjorn Ulvaeus and was also friends with Anni-Frid Lyngstad. They along with Benny Andersson would form the group ABBA which would find worldwide success, especially after winning the widely televised Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. During her time with the group she also released the album “Elva kvinnor I et thus” which became one of the longest charting albums of Sweden. She continued making songs while being part of ABBA, and even released her own version of “SOS”. She also recorded the Christmas album “Nu tandas tusen juleijus” and became a successful solo artist even with the international fame of the band.

In 1981, Agnetha tried her hand as a composer, writing the ballad “Men Natten Ar Var”. ABBA would continue touring around the world, and she was responsible for helping create numerous songs including “Just Like That”, “Take a Chance on Me”, “Thank You for the Music” and “The Day Before You Came”. The group disbanded in late 1982, and Faltskog would then re-embark on a solo career. She released her first post-ABBA album in 1983 entitled “Wrap Your Arms Around Me”, and it found moderate success in various countries. The album sold 1.2 million copies in the first year and found a significant amount of popularity all around Europe.

Her next album would be “Eyes of a Woman” which was released in 1985 and it sold well in Europe. The following year, she recorded a duet with Ola Hakansson entitled “The Way You Are” and it would reach the top of the charts of Sweden. In 1987, she would record her fourth solo album “I Stand Alone” and it became the best-selling album in Sweden during 1988. Afterwards, she went on hiatus and withdrew from public appearances, becoming something of a recluse. In 1996, she released her autobiography entitled “As I Am”. She would return to making music in 2004 and would release a collection album entitled “My Colouring Book”. She would continue this with another compilation album in 2008 entitled “My Very Best”. One of her latest works is the album “A” released in 2013.

For her personal life, it is known that Agnetha married Bjorn Ulvaeus in 1971 and they had two children. They divorced in 1978 but decided to keep performing together in ABBA. In 1990, she married Tomas Sonnenfeld and their marriage lasted for two years.
