Albert Leornes "Al" Greene Wiki Biography
Albert Leornes “Al” Greene, sometimes called ‘The Reverend’, was born on the 13th April 1946 in Forrest City, Arkansas, USA. He is a soul musician – singer, songwriter and record producer, who is probably best known for hit singles such as “Love And Happiness”, “Tired Of Being Alone”, and “Let’s Stay Together”, and is considered to be one of the greatest soul singers of all time. His career has been active since 1967.
Have you ever wondered how rich Al Green is, as of early 2016? It has been estimated from sources that the overall size of Al’s net worth is $10 million, which has been accumulated through his successful involvement in the music industry. He also increased his fortune when he became an ordained pastor of the Full Gospel Tabernacle. Another source is coming from releasing his autobiographical book “Take Me To The River” (2000).
Al Green Net Worth $10 Million
Al Green is the sixth of ten children raised by Cora Lee and Robert G. Greene, Jr., who worked as a sharecropper. When he was 10 years old, Al started to perform together with his brothers in their own group the Green Brothers. Later, the family moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he attended high school, and where he founded the vocal group Al Greene & the Creations. Soon after, the group changed its name to Al Greene & the Soul Mates and recorded a single “Back Up Train”, which became hit, however, the following releases failed miserably, as well as their first studio album of the same name.
Nevertheless, Al continued with music, and his next album came out in 1969, entitled “Green Is Blues”, reaching No. 3 on the US R&B Charts. This encouraged Green to continue in the same music genre, and his popularity grew immensely during the 1970s. Some of his albums achieved gold and platinum status, which only increased his net worth, and also topped the US R&B Charts. Albums “Let`s Stay Together” (1972), “I’m Still in Love with You” (1972), “Call Me” (1973), “Livin’ for You” (1973), “Al Green Explores Your Mind” (1974), and “Al Green Is Love” (1975), all reached No. 1 on the US R&B charts. However, after that, his popularity and success began to decline, and his albums never again topped the R&B charts. During the 1970s, he released albums “Have a Good Time” (1976), and “Truth n’ Time” (1978), among others, which helped maintain his net worth.
In the 1980s, he switched from soul to gospel music, and his fame returned with the albums such as “I ll Rise Again” (1983), “He Is The Light” (1985), “Trust In God” (1984) and “Soul Survivor” (1987), which topped the US Gospel chart, adding further to his net worth.
In the 1990s, he again got lost along the way, as some of his albums failed to chart, such as “From My Soul” (1990), “Love Is Reality” (1992), and “Don`t Look Back” (1993).
He managed to recover his popularity in the 2000s, by releasing albums “I Can`t Stop” (2003), which reached No. 9 on the US R&B chart, and his last studio album “Lay It Down“ (2008), which reached No. 3 on the US R&B chart.
Thanks to his talents, Al has received numerous prestigious nominations and awards, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, and also into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2004. Furthermore, in 2009, Al received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the BET Awards.
Speaking about his personal life, Al Green was married to Shirley Kyles from 1977 to 1983; they are the parents of three daughters.
