All went to Blanche Ely High School, located in Pompano Beach, Florida and after matriculation enrolled at the Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas. While there, Al played football for the university team and won the national championship in 1994. He spent only two years at the Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas, as he transferred to Texas A&M University-Kingsville. There, Al excelled on the football team, and was a first-team All-Lone Star Conference pick in 1996.

After successful seasons at Texas A&M, Al declared for the 1997 NFL Draft, and was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round of the draft as the 169th pick overall, but didn’t make a single appearance that season as he was on the practice squad of the Buccaneers.

The following season he joined the Philadelphia Eagles, after clearing off waivers. He played in all 16 games that season, but without a major contribution to the team’s overall result. He played for the Eagles until 2002, and then joined the Green Bay Packers, where he had his best seasons in 2004 and 2005, recording 62 tackles in both seasons, while in 2005 he had three sacks.

From 2008 injuries started to disrupt his solid form, and in 2009 it was feared that Al would end his career, after he tore the anterior cruciate ligament and the lateral collateral ligament, fibular collateral ligament, iliotibial band, and the lateral hamstring. He was chasing Michael Crabtree, and though no contact, Al just fell to the ground, and had to undergo reconstructive knee surgery. He tried to return to the field in 2010 but was released by the Packers.

After the Packers, Al joined the Miami Dolphins, but played in only three games before injuring his hamstring, and the Dolphins released him on the 30th December 2010. Six months later he came to terms with the St. Louis Rams, but his season came to an end after nine games, as he tore an anterior cruciate ligament.

Before retiring, Al signed a one-day contract with the Green Bay Packers; he wanted to retire as a Packer, due to his successful time in the franchise from Green Bay.

His coaching career started in 2012 when he was a coaching interim under coach Joe Philbin for the Miami Dolphins, and then in 2013 joined the Kansas City Chiefs as defensive backs coach, and defensive assistant, which has also contributed to his wealth.

Regarding his personal life, Al is married to Shyla with whom he has three children, Al Jr., Gage, and Gavin.
