Clare grew up in a music oriented family, and was influenced by his father’s jazz records – he looked up to artists like Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder. Alex originally played the trumpet and drums, but eventually replaced them with playing the guitar, and songwriting. He attended Bishop Challoner School in Bromley, and continued his education in Westminster Kingsway College, in the catering field.

However, he went on to sign a contract with Island label in the UK following his demo. He made his debut with ‘’The Lateness of the Hour’’, an album produced by Major Lazer and Mike Spencer, which received mixed reviews but didn’t do as well commercially as was expected, and Clare was subsequently released from the record label.
