She started her acting career as a child, at the age of seven convincing her mother to let her be cast and make her debut in a stage production of “The Sound of Music” in the University of Northern Colorado. the age of eight she starred in ‘Annie,’ before getting a role in the TV series ‘Boone’ in 1983, but came to international stardom after starring in the film ‘Can’t Buy Me Love,’ in which she worked alongside Patrick Dempsey.

By the time she started her professional career, Amanda had already obtained the status of teen idol, subsequently appearing on many teen magazine covers such as ‘Teen Beat’ and ‘Tiger Beat.’ In 1981, she landed an important role in TV series such as ‘Silver Spoons’ and ‘Father Murphy.’ She played alongside Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix in ‘Explorers’ in 1985. In 1986, she co-starred in a miniseries called ‘A Year in the Life’ as Sunny Sisk, which was the third highest rated in the 1986 to 1987 U.S. TV seasons, and which won her the Young Actress Award. In 1988, she co-starred in the movie ‘The Lawless Land’ and another one, ‘Listen to Me,’ in 1989.
