She moved to New York City at the age of 18 and would attend the American Musical and Acting Academy as well as the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. She moved to Los Angeles to audition for “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”, and was cast in the role of Pink Power Ranger Kimberly Ann Hart. She left the show in 1995, and would then appear in “Susie Q” and “Saved by the Bell: The New Class” which were produced by Disney. Two years later she became a part of “Killing Mr. Griffin” which was based on a novel, and “Perfect Body”. She then reprised her role of Kimberly Hart in the film “Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie”. 1My fondest memory of Power Rangers was just being a kid and hanging out with the cast and crew. We had such a great time on and off set. We were like a family. Lots of very fun parties and laughs.
2[on the question if she likes behind the scenes work in oppose to acting] Yes, I do. I feel more comfortable behind the camera for some reason. I think it's where I was meant to be. The 20 years I spent in front of the camera has been the best training ground on so many levels for me. I do still enjoy acting, but my heart is in writing and directing.
3[Being asked if she would make a cameo in any of the upcoming Power Rangers films] I did hear about this and would absolutely do a cameo in these films if I were asked. What fun would that be!
4[on asking if she kept any props from her time on the Power Rangers show] I wish I did!! Would come in handy right now with our Indiegogo campaign for my first feature film The Space Between. Ah well...
5[on her transition from kids shows to drama shows] I think I just grew up. At a certain point I'm just not a kid anymore. But boy did I ride that out! I was 28 years old when I played Julie Emrick on Felicity. Love that!!
6My mom taught me to go after my dreams. I have this faith in myself that I must have gotten from her. I believe I can do anything. If I decide I want to be a doctor tomorrow, I'm going to be a doctor. Amy Jo Johnson, discussing memories of her mother; Teen People, December 1999
1She is left-handed.
2Her maternal grandfather was a Portuguese immigrant, from the Azores. Her other ancestry is English, and a smaller amount of French-Canadian.
3Became a Canadian Citizen in June 2015. Now has dual citizenship.
4Bears such as strong resemblance to fellow actress Jennifer Garner, fans often confuse the two, and whenever this happens, Johnson takes it in stride and sometimes signs autographs as Garner if asked for one.
5Gave birth at age 38, to her 1st child, a daughter named Francesca Christine Giner, on December 1, 2008 at 9:09 p.m., weighing 7 lbs., 1 oz. Her middle name honors Amy's late mother. Child's father is her fiancé (now husband) Olivier Giner.
6Married Olivier Giner, her longtime boyfriend and father of her 8-month-old daughter named Francesca. [August 2009]
7Decided to leave Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1993) midway through the third season because she was ready to move on and find other acting opportunities.

19She cites the main reason for her departure from Felicity (1998) in 2000 was that she needed to grieve for her mother. Her mother had died two years previously and she felt that being on such a prominent show hadn't given her the time or space to do so.
