Lilly, who previously identified as male, attended Kellogg Elementary School and later Whitney Young High School, where she reportedly took part in the school’s theatre activities alongside her sister, Lana. After that she enrolled into Emerson College in Boston, but quit graduating and started working for the family’s house painting business, concurrently writing for Marvel Comics. However, Lilly made her debut as a screenwriter when with her sister Lana she co-wrote ‘’Assassins’’, released in 1995, However, the duo rose to fame when they wrote the script for ‘’The Matrix’’, released in 1999. The film was a box office hit, grossing more than $463 million, starring the prominent American actor Keanu Reeves, who portrayed Neo, the computer hacker who discovers that there is something wrong with the world, as it is being run by the so called ‘’matrix’’. This science fiction move received an overwhelmingly positive response from the audience and critics, and went on to win four Oscars and 34 other awards. ‘’The Matrix’’ was followed by the release of ‘’The Matrix: Reloaded’’ in 2003, which in the same manner grossed a vast amount of money but wasn’t as acclaimed as the first film, but still won eight awards, including the Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie – Drama/Action Adventure.
