Angel grew up in the rather restrictive Greater Apostolic Faith, but after a pastor threatened her mother, the family would move to Brooklyn, New York, where she started learning more about secular music.
Starting from 2009, Haze began releasing a series of mixtapes that were available free via the internet; some of these included “King”, “Voice”, “Altered Ego” and “New Moon”. In 2012, she released the mixtape “Reservation” which received critical acclaim, and brought her a nomination for the Sound of 2013 poll thanks to the mixtape. After she signed with the Universal label, she released the song “Echelon (It’s My Way)” as a promotion for her debut album entitled “Dirty Gold” in late 2013, earlier than scheduled because of a leak. It had low sales during the first week, but two years later she released another mixtape entitled “Back to the Woods”. According to an interview, she is working on a sophomore album. These efforts have contributed to her net worth.
Aside from music, Angel works a lot on body image and representation campaigns. One of her more notable campaigns is entitled “The Naked Eye”. The campaign focuses on various forms including gender identity and eating disorders. She also made an appearance in the television show “Catfish: The TV Show”, on which she did co-hosting work, and boosted her net worth.
Despite it being relatively early in her music career, she’s been nominated numerous times for her work, including in the MTV Video Music Awards, O Music Awards, BET Awards, and GLAAD Media Awards. She also finished third in BBC’s Sound of 2013.
For her personal life, Haze calls herself a pansexual and stated that she can be attracted to anyone regardless of their gender identity. She mentions that she doesn’t really care how she is labelled and doesn’t consider herself as any sex. She had a relationship with model Ireland Baldwin, focusing on them being both a queer and interracial couple. However the relationship ended in 2015. Aside from these, she released a song “Cleaning Out My Closet” which borrows Eminem’s beat of the song of the same name.
However, in her version she talks about being sexually assaulted when she was younger.
