Annie Leibovitz Net Worth $20 Million

Annie is of Jewish ancestry, since her parents were Romanian Jews. She is one of six children born to Marilyn Edith and her husband Samuel Leibovitz. Her father worked in the US Air Forces, serving as a lieutenant colonel, and because of the nature of his job, Annie and the whole family moved quite often. She even spent time in the Philippines during the Vietnam War, and is where she took her first pictures.

Annie went to Northwood High School, located in Silver Spring, Maryland, and at that time she started to show interest in art, and also writing and playing music. After matriculation, she enrolled at San Francisco Art Institute to study painting, but parallel with studies, Annie pursued her passion of photography. In 1969 she went to Amir, Israel as a kibbutz volunteer.

Upon her return in 1970, she joined Rolling Stone magazine as staff photographer. Thanks to her good work, Jann Wenner, co-founder of the magazine, named her as chief photographer. For the next 10 years she held that position, which only increased her net worth, and also helped establish a name for herself. Annie photographed numerous stars, including the Rolling Stones in 1971 and 1972, while she was the concert-tour photographer in 1975. Also, she photographed Joan Armatrading, and in that way became the first woman to photograph the three-time Grammy Award-nominated singer. Her most successful work came in 1980, when she photographed John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono – John and Yoko were curled up one to another, with Lennon naked. The picture became an immediate hit, since Lennon was shot and killed just five hours later.

Annie continued to take notable photographs after she left Rolling Stone, some of these include Jackie and Joan Collins in a limo, then Miley Cyrus semi-nude, Johnny Depp and Kate Moss with Moss nude and Depp fully clothed with his head on her abdomen, Caitlyn Jenner, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan, who was pregnant at the time, and Adele for Vogue, among many others, the popularity of which increased her net worth by a large margin.

Annie has also released 11 photography books, including “Photographs”, Photographs 1970-1990, “White Oak Dance Project: Photographs by Anne Leibovitz”, “Women”, ”Pilgrimage”, among others, sales of which have helped increase her net worth.

Thanks to her skills, Annie has received several prestigious awards, including the Royal Photographic Society’s Centenary Medal and Honorary Fellowship, and Prince of Asturias Award for Communication.

Regarding her personal life, Annie is a mother to three children. Her first child was born in 2001 when she was 52, while her twins were born to a surrogate mother in 2005. When it comes to her love life, Annie was a close friend with writer Susan Sontag, from 1989 until Susan`s death in 2004. When asked about their relationship, Annie would often say that the two were friends, but also that she loves Susan.

Following poorly financed renovation projects, Annie was forced to borrow $15.5 million against her properties, eventually believed to have sold her main residence for over $30 million.
