William James O’Brien was born on 23 October 1969, in Dorchester, Massachusetts USA, and is a professional American Football coach, best known as the head coach of the National Football League (NFL) team, the Houston Texans. Bill attended St. John’s Preparatory School, and after matriculating went to Brown University. He played for the Brown Bears as a defensive end and linebacker from 1990 to 1992.
After graduating, O’Brien got his first coaching position at his alma mater in 1993, coaching tight ends; the following year he started coaching inside linebackers. Afterwards, he moved to Georgia Tech for the next three seasons as an offensive graduate assistant. From 1998, he coached the Yellow Jackets’ running backs for three seasons before serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2001. After a year, he was hired as offensive coordinator by Notre Dame, then moved to the University of Maryland to be a running backs coach.
