Björn Borg Net Worth $28.5 Million

Björn is the son of Margaretha Borg and Rune; he spent his childhood in Södertälje and from a young age became interested in tennis after he was stunned by his father’s golden tennis racket, actually won playing table tennis. Gradually he was becoming better and better, and at the age of 13, he was already better than anyone in his class of Swedish players.

In 1972 he joined Sweden’s Davis Cup team against Netherlands, and won his debut match by defeating Onny Parun in five sets. The same year he won his Wimbledon junior singles title, then in 1973 became a professional. In his rookie year, Björn finished the season as No. 18 after several notable results, including being the runner-up at the Monte Carlo Open, losing to Ille Nastase in the finals, and also reached the fourth round of the French Open, starting as unseeded.

The following year was his breakthrough year, as he won his first French Open title and seven other singles titles, including in London, Boston and Adelaide. Björn subsequently dominated the tennis courts until the early ‘80s, winning five more French Open titles, in 1975, 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1981, and added five Wimbledon titles, consecutively from 1976 to 1980. However, he wasn’t quite successful at other two Grand Slams, taking part only once at the Australian Open, while at the US Open he was a finalist four times, but failed to win the title losing to Jimmy Connors, and John McEnroe two times to each player. Björn started struggling with the early ‘80s, and in 1983 decided to retire at the age of 26. He tried to return in the early ‘90s, but without any major success.

When he retired, Björn owned a penthouse in Monte Carlo, a mansion on Long Island, and bought a small island off the Swedish coast. He had also started several business ventures, including a pro shop, and a fashion label, which became a success in his native country. His net worth was soaring, but in later years he had financial troubles, but luckily managed to avoid bankruptcy.

Thanks to his successful career, Björn received a number of recognitions, including being inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1987, and he also holds the record of 41 consecutive match wins at the Wimbledon Open.

When it comes to his personal life, Björn has had a life full of adventures; in 1980 he married Mariana Simionescu, a Romanian tennis player, but the couple divorced in 1984. He then entered into a relationship with Swedish model Jannike Björling with whom he has a child. In 1989 he married Loredana Berte, a singer, but their marriage ended in 1993. In 2002, Björn announced his marriage to Patricia Östfeld; the couple has a son together, who has followed in his father’s footsteps and is currently the highest-ranked tennis player in Sweden.

During his financial problems, Borg had to sell some of his tennis memorabilia, but since then has recovered prized items, which include Wimbledon trophies and several rackets.
