Weir was adopted in his early childhood. He got interested in music and playing various instruments in adolescence. Bob experienced difficulties while studying at school as he was dyslexic. Because of this, he changed schools many times as he was constantly expelled from the educational institutions.
The beginning of his career was the foundation of the band “Grateful Dead”. It has been reported that the founders of the band had been influenced by the legendary music band “The Beatles”. The band consisted of five members: Bill Kreutzmann the drummer, Phil Lesh the bassist and vocalist, Ron McKernan the vocalist and keyboard player, Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir who were both guitarists and vocalists. Bob is considered as the lead singer of the band as well as the rhythm guitarist. The band has released twenty-eight singles, thirteen studio albums, nine live albums, six compilation albums and ten video albums. The most successful albums that received platinum or multi-platinum certifications in USA were the following: “Workingman’s Dead” (1970), “American Beauty” (1970), “Europe ‘72” (1972) and “In The Dark” (1983). The band has worked under the labels of Arista, Warner Bross and The Grateful Dead. During the long-spanned career of the band, the members have received many honours but the most important was the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
