Several years later, he sent a tape in the form of an audition to Fox News in 1998, and was soon appointed as the Atlanta bureau chief for the network, which became the main source of his net worth over the next few years. However, he was sent to the Pentagon in 2001 to report on the 9/11 attacks, and after his coverage ended, Bret was appointed as the permanent Pentagon correspondent for Fox News. In the next five years in that position, Bret was sent to Iraq and Afghanistan 13 and 11 times respectively.
