Nevertheless, he became captain again in April 2006, leading the West Indies to win only one of the 14 Test matches. Later that year, he became the first player in the West Indies who passed 10,000 ODI runs, alongside Indian Sachin Tendulkar, but in 2007 before the Cricket World Cup, he announced his retirement, so his last match would be in One Day Internationals, if he didn’t sign a contract with the Indian Cricket League in the same year; however, he suffered an injury, tried to play again, but this time he didn’t have major success.However, he stayed in the sports industry as an ambassador of the Bangladesh Premier League team Chittagong Kings.
