Westbrook attended DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, where he excelled in football and basketball. As a football player for the school’s team, he was a first team All-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference selection, and an All-State Honorable Mention selection in his junior year, and then a first team All-League selection, a first team All-Prince George’s County selection, and an All-State Honorable Mention selection as a senior.

In 1997 he enrolled at Villanova University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, joining the Wildcats football team and establishing himself as one of the most versatile college players. During his tenure with the Wildcats, he scored 542 points with 84 touchdowns, carried the ball 725 times for 4,499 yards, caught 219 passes for 2,639 yards and gained 2,433 yards and 4 touchdowns on kickoff returns. He established the all-time NCAA record of purpose yards with 9.885, breaking the previous record of 9,301. He also set numerous school records, 13 Atlantic 10 Conference and five NCAA records, becoming the only player in I-AA history to capture 160 or more points twice during his career and the first college player ever with 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. He was a consensus All-American, named A-10 offensive player of the year twice, and received the Walter Payton Award.

Westbrook was selected in the third round by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2002 NFL Draft. After limited play in his rookie season, he became the first player in the team’s history to return two punts for touchdowns in a single season in 2003. He went on to become the starting running back in 2004, giving a decent performance in the Super Bowl and making his first trip to the Pro Bowl. The following year he signed a five-year contract extension with the team, which considerably added to his net worth.

In the next season, Westbrook became the first player in the franchise history to rush for over 100 yards in three straight games in 25 years. With a career-high 1,217 rushing yards, he passed the 1,000 yard rushing mark for the first time in his career. He gave a brilliant performance in the 2007 season as well, amassing 1,333 rushing yards and breaking the team’s single season record in yards from scrimmage with 2,104 and receptions with 90. He was named to his second Pro Bowl and first All-Pro team that year.

The player then signed a further extension of five-year for $32 million with the team, with the possibility of a bonus of another $3 million after the first three seasons; his wealth was boosted considerably. However, multiple injuries limited his action in both 2008 and 2009 seasons, and the team released him in 2010.

Later that year he joined the San Francisco 49ers, signing a one-year, $1.25 million deal with $1.25 million worth of incentives, improving his net worth once again. He went on to carry the ball 23 times for 136 yards and 1 touchdown while with the 49ers, but Westbrook retired from professional football in 2012, becoming a panel member of “Eagles Post Game Live” program.

In his personal life, Westbrook has one child with his ex-girlfriend, Loy Edwards, with whom he has been involved in a child custody fight. Sources are unaware of his current relationship status.
The player is a devoted philanthropist; he has founded a charity organization called Brian’s Blessings, focused on providing help to underprivileged children.
