Buckethead is the youngest child of five, born to Tom Carroll and his wife Nancy. Growing up he was an introvert, mostly spending time by himself in his room, reading comic books and playing with other toys. When he was 12 years old, he picked up a guitar for the first time and was taught the basics by “an old man who lived down the street” – literally – from Buckethead’s home. He and his family moved to Claremont, and there, he took guitar lessons from various private teachers visiting a local music store, including Paul Gilbert.
His professional career started in 1987 when he joined the band Class-X, but which soon fell apart. He was then a part of several bands, including Limbomaniacs, Deli Creeps and Praxis, before he released his first solo album, entitled “Bucketheadland”, but it wasn’t until the early 2000s, that he started releasing several albums per year.
