Born in Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn, New York, DeVille started his love for music at a very young age. He sites that his love for music stared when he saw the Beatles perform on “The Ed Sullivan Show”. Later on his parents gave him a guitar and a Japanese Telecaster copy. He listened to various rock bands that later on became his inspiration.

Some of the bands that piqued his interest included Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, The Who and Kiss to name a few.

At the age of 18, DeVille joined the band Lace in Brooklyn and began performing around town. He also studied for a while in New York University to pursue a degree in music theory but he dropped out to pursue a career in music. He decided to move to Los Angeles in 1981 and joined various bands to score a career in music. Some of the bands he joined include St James, Lace Slip, Screaming Mimi and Roxx Regime. Although it was a slow start his career in music was growing and so was his wealth.

Ultimately, he got the position and officially became part of the band along with bassist Bobby Dall, drummer Rikki Rockett, and vocalist Bret Michaels.

The band’s first album was released in 1986 entitled “Look Who the Cat Dragged In”. Their song “Talk Dirty to Me” became a massive hit and immediately increased the sales of their album. The song also catapulted the band to success thus increasing the net worth of the boys and DeVille.

Poison released they second album after two years entitled “Open Up and Say…Ahh!” and once again performed very well. It became multi-platinum and the songs “Nothin’ But a Good Time” and “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” topped the charts. Their third album “Flesh and Blood” released in 1990 performed just as well as the last two cementing Poison as one of the top rock bands of their time.

After non-stop success, DeVille also experienced some low when he had a falling out with the band. In 1991, while the band was performing at the MTV Video Music Awards, DeVille played “Talk Dirty to Me” instead of “Unskinny Bop”. Vocalist Bret Michaels accused him of being drunk and under the influence of drugs, thus he was kicked out of the

DeVille tried to create his own band Samantha 7, but after some years he eventually reconnected with band.
