Caleb Followill was raised with two brothers, the son of Ivan Leon Followill, who was a United Pentecostal Church minister, and Betty-Ann. As the family moved frequently, he was educated at home by his mother, and parallel with that he attended some parochial schools. Upon his father’s resignation from the church in 1997, they settled down in Nashville, Tennessee. From an early age, Caleb was very interested in music, and his early influences were Dave Alvin, Pearl Jam, and Roger Miller.
He soon decided to pursue a career as a musician, and formed the band called Kings of Leon in 2000, named after his grandfather, The members consisted of Caleb, and his two brothers – Nathan, who plays drums, and Jared, who plays the bass guitar – and his cousin, Matthew Followill, a guitarist.
The band’s debut record was released in 2003, entitled “Holy Roller Novocaine”, an EP which received a 4/5 star rating from “Rolling Stone” magazine; the record was produced by Angelo Petraglia, who also co-wrote songs such as “Wasted Time”, “California Waiting”, and “Wicker Chair”. With this EP, his involvement in the music industry became the main source of Caleb’s net worth. Subsequently, in the same year, they released their first album, entitled “Youth and Young Manhood”, produced again by Angelo Petraglia, with the help of Ethan Johns. The album proved to be a huge accomplishment, as it became a sensation in the UK, where it was named as one of the best debut albums of the last 10 years; however, in the US it failed, as it sold only 100,000 copies.
In 2004 the band’s second album “Aha Shake Heartbreak” came out, which containd songs such as “Four Kicks” and “King Of The Rodeo”, and which entered the Top 20 in Britain. The single “Taper Jean Girl” was used in such films as “Disturbia” (2007), and “Cloverfield” (2008), and increased further Caleb’s net worth. During 2004 and 2005, the band toured with other bands, including Pearl Jam, and U2.
After 2005, Kings of Leon gained a major commercial success, as their third album “Because Of The Times” (2007) reached No. 1 in the UK. The next year “Only By The Night” (2008) also reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart, and the song “Sex On Fire” became the hallmark of the band. The second single, “Use Somebody” won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year, and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and Best Rock Song.
Two years later, the band released the album “Come Around Sundown”, and in support of the album the band went on a tour, visiting cities across the USA, which helped to increase sales. However, during a concert, Caleb left the stage as he was very intoxicated, and he never returned, which was the cause of canceling other scheduled concerts.
After that, the band went on hiatus, but returned within a year, and released their sixth album “Mechanical Bull”; the second single from the album, named “Wait For Me”, reached No. 31 in the UK Singles Charts, adding a lot to Caleb’s net worth.
If to talk about his personal life, Caleb Followill has been married to Lily Aldridge since May of 2011; the couple has a daughter together.

1 | It's about when Nathan and I went to Arizona, and...well, we had quite a few different substances in us, and we decided to go to this brothel. I guess I am telling you now, aren't I? This really is a heart-breaker. We walked in and I looked around and there was this one girl who was so beautiful that all I could think was, "What happened in her life that could bring her here?" as opposed to me thinking, "Yeah! I'll take that one!" I took an ugly one. I knew why she was there. (On "Arizona") |
