Charles Rogers Net Worth $100,000

Charles Rogers grew up in Michigan where he went to the Saginaw High School and starred in football, basketball, and track for the Trojans. From 2000 to 2002, Rogers played football at Michigan State University and set several receiving records while there, among some of them, Charles broke Randy Moss’ NCAA record of 13 games in a row with a touchdown catch. In his junior year in 2002, Rogers won both the Fred Biletnikoff Award and Paul Warfield Trophy and was named the best young wide receiver in the country. He was named to the First-team All-Big Ten (2001, 2002) and was Unanimous All-American (2002).

The Detroit Lions selected Rogers as the second pick overall in the 2003 NFL Draft, and in his first five games managed to record 243 yards on 22 catches, but then he broke his clavicle and missed the rest of the rookie season. His misfortunes continued in the 2004 season after Rogers broke his clavicle again in the opening game of the season against the Chicago Bears. Devastated by this injury, Charles asked the Lions to let him go home for the remainder of the season and they agreed. However, following his recovery, Rogers was suspended for four matches in the 2005 season for a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy, his third. He returned to the field after serving a suspension, but appeared in only nine games and recorded 14 catches for 197 yards and a touchdown. In September 2006, the Lions decided to release Rogers – he was effectively fired by Detroit, which demanded a return of $10 million out of $14.2 million, which they paid him in bonuses, citing breach of contract.

Later it was confirmed that Charles had failed drug tests while at Michigan State, as well. He then had workouts with Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Miami Dolphins, and New England Patriots, but failed to sign a contract, ending any realistic hope of a return to the game.

Regarding his personal life, Charles Rogers has eight children with four different women, including two while still in high school. One can imagine child support payments draining his bank acount. Additionally, he has had several problems with authorities; in September 2008, Rogers was arrested for assault on his girlfriend. In March 2009, Charles violated probation and was forced to serve time prison time. In April 2010, the judge ordered him to pay $6.1 million of $9.1 million signing bonus he received from the Lions. Roger was involved in another incident regarding alcohol and drug abuse, but any charges are still pending.
