Charlie Schlatter was raised in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, where he went to the Memorial Junior High School, where he played the lead role in the school’s production of Charles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist”. After matriculating from high school, Schlatter studied at Ithaca College and graduated with a BAdegree in musical theater.

In 1988, Charlie made his on-screen debut in James Bridges’ drama “Bright Lights, Big City” starring Michael J. Fox and Kiefer Sutherland. The same year, Schlatter starred as David Watson in the comedy called “18 Again!”, about a young man and his grandfather who is in a coma. Alongside Kylie Minogue, Charlie played in the romantic drama “The Delinquents” (1989), portraying Brownie, a guy who is in love with Lola, but their parents are against that relationship because they are under-age.

From 1990 to 1991, Schlatter starred alongside Jennifer Aniston as Ferris Bueller in the series version of the Matthew Broderick’s feature movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, appearing in 13 episodes. In the mid-90s, Charlie had a supporting role in the comedy “Police Academy: Mission to Moscow” (1994), in which he played Cadet Connors. He then portrayed Dr. Jesse Travis in 137 episodes of the Primetime Emmy Award-nominated series “Diagnosis Murder” (1995-2001), the story about Dr. Mark Sloan and his son and homicide detective Steve, and their adventures in solving mystery crimes. Taking part in this popular show helped Schlatter to increase his net worth significantly.

In 2002, Charlie had a role in the television movie “Diagnosis Murder: Without Warning”, but then failed to secure a notable role, mostly lending his voice to various characters in animated TV series. Although his career took a step down and he struggled to make an impact, Schlatter still managed to appear in various shows such as the Primetime Emmy Award-nominated “NCIS” in 2014.

Most recently, Charlie had a part in an episode of the “Feud” (2017) starring Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon, while he is currently working on “Fighting Nora” and “Treasures”, both of which will be released late in 2017.

Regarding his personal life, Charlie Schlatter dated fellow actress Jennifer Aniston in 1990, but then he married Colleen Gunderson in 1994 and has three children with her. His best friend is a Golden Globe Award-nominated actor Dick Van Dyke.

#Quote
1[Of Dick Van Dyke]: Working with Dick Van Dyke was one of the greatest experiences in my life. By far, the most talented, inspirational, gracious human beings I have ever had the pleasure of sharing a scene with. He was always so great to me and so great to my wife and children.
2[on his on- and off-screen chemistry with Dick Van Dyke, who played Dr. Mark Sloan]: I loved Dick Van Dyke. Before I got that role in the show, I was a big Dick Van Dyke fan. You know 10 years after the fact, I'm a bigger Dick Van Dyke fan. Dick was like working with Santa Claus, everyday. He was the most, kind, generous, gregarious man that I ever had the fortune of working with, and you know, to me, that was like hitting the actor's lottery. You don't always get to work on the show where you love everybody and this was one of them, so, it was a true, true blessing and I'm thankful for everyday of it.
3[Who once heard of Dick Van Dyke's reference to his co-star's real name]: Dick always calls me Charlie instead of Jesse on camera. And he'll hit his head and say: Why don't you just change your name in Jesse?
4About working with Barry Van Dyke: "Barry is a great guy, nothing but honesty coming out of him...He and I die laughing about the stupidest things and we're like a couple of school girls...We're so physically opposite, it's fun playing off him, he's such a straight man."
5About his short-term photographic memory :"When you're doing a show like this (Diagnosis Murder (1993) ), it's like cramming for an exam two minutes before the test. I can look at a page for a while and have it in my head and when we move onto the next scene I've completely forgotten what I just said."
6Talking about a girl from school: "The girl didn't only happen to be cute, she was also the only girl at school that was shorter than me."
