Although born in Pasadena, Chase grew up in Long Beach, California, attending Long Beach Polytechnic High School where he started playing baseball, and became one of the top players in his class, earning All-American honors and setting the record for most runs in a single season with 14. After high school he enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles, and continued with baseball, playing for the UCLA Bruins. In his junior season, Chase had a record of .382 hitting average and 22 home runs, and as a result he was selected for the All-Pac-10 team, and first team All-American by National Collegiate Baseball Writers and Sporting News.
Before he enrolled at college, he was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers as the 76th pick in the 1997 Major League Baseball draft, but instead he chose college; then in 2000 he was chosen by the Philadelphia Phillies as the 15th pick in the amateur draft, and signed a contract with the Phillies the same year, which marked the beginning of his professional career. Before he made his debut in the MLB, Chase played for several minor clubs that are in the Phillies` farm system, including Batavia Muckdogs, Clearwater Phillies, and the Scranton/Wilkes0Barre Red Barons.

He joined the Phillies` first squad in 2003 as a pinch hitter in the match against Pittsburgh Pirates; however, he posted several bad games, and was temporarily sent back to the minor league, but the same year he got back into the senior squad in the second baseman position to replace Plácido Polanco. Chase started successfully, and secured his place by the end of the 2004 season. Thanks to his great performances, Chase was offered a new contract worth $85 million over seven years, which only increased his net worth.

Unfortunately, as the years went by, he became prone to injuries, and as a result, he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Darnell Sweeney and John Richy in 2015. In his first game for the new team, Chase made an impressive comeback and looked like his old self. Following the end of the season, Chase had a team option on his contract, and Dodgers decided not to sign him, and instead made him a free agent. Nevertheless, they re-signed him on a $7 million contract over one year, which only increased further his net worth. During the 2016 season he played in 138 games and had the hitting average of .252, with 14 home runs and 52 RBI.
He is currently a free agent, and awaits new offers from the MLB teams.

During his career, he has appeared in six All-Star games, from 2006 until 2010 and again in 2014; in 2010 he was the recipient of the Fielding Bible Award, among many other recognitions.

He has amassed a total record of 1,777 hits, 250 home runs, 9777 RBI and 145 stolen bases with abating average of .278.

Regarding his personal life, Chase has been married to Jennifer since 2007; the couple has two children.

Chase is also a PETA supporter, and has participated in the “Adopt Don’t Buy” campaign and video, through which he encourages people to choose animals from shelters as their pets.
