As a child, Chris had his first acting opportunity on stage for a production of “This Little Light of Mine”. He attended Millard West High School after their family moved to Omaha, Nebraska, and he started performing there as well. He appeared in the school production of “West Side Story”, while also being involved in the swim and football teams of the school. During his senior year, he was given his first opportunity at a big acting job in “Election’. He then attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
The director, Alexander Payne found Chris while he was performing in high school and asked him to audition for the film “Election”. He was cast for the role and after it was released, it received a lot of good reviews. This helped Klein, as while he was studying theatre in the university he was given various acting opportunities including “American Pie”. In the film, he played the character Oz who exaggerates his skills with women, and eventually falls for a girl named Heather. The film would become a box office hit, then a year later he was cast in “Here on Earth” alongside Josh Hartnett. In 2001, Chris went back to reprise his role in the film “American Pie 2” but was not a part of the third film “American Wedding” due to schedule conflicts. He was then part of the Mel Gibson film “We Were Soldiers” and later “Rollerball” which was considered a failure.
After these films, he continued appearing in teen movies such as “American Dreamz” and “Just Friends”. He reprised his role in the film “American Reunion” during 2012, with most of the cast members returning. His latest work includes “The Uberkanone” in 2014, and “Authors Anonymous” with Kaley Cuoco.
Chris’ character in the “American Pie” series was also spoofed in the film “Not Another Teen Movie”, with actor Sam Huntington doing an exaggerated version of the character.
For his personal life, it is known that Chris dated Katie Holmes starting in 2000 and they announced their engagement three years later; however this was called off in 2005, and later he met Ginnifer Goodwin, dating for two years until 2008. He married Laina Rose Thyfault in 2015, and they have announced that they are expecting a child. Aside from his relationships, Chris has been arrested a few times because of drink driving, and even went to a 30-day alcohol addiction rehabilitation program to resolve his problem.
(2012) Rollerball was definitely a dud. I was 21-years-old, working on a movie with a budget of $103 million, and working with John McTiernan, who did Die Hard, Predator, and The Hunt For Red October. I did the best I could with that project. But listen: the movie doesn't work. There's a lot of reasons for it, but it certainly wasn't for lack of effort on my part.

(2012, on quitting drinking) I realized I had to get it straight and realize what the fuck was going on because the me that I knew was slipping away. At that point, fuck acting. Can I even get out of bed? I was a 31-year-old man with bills to pay, a dog to take care of, and my mother sick with worry. And I'm in jail again. How did I get here? Living with addiction is not living, it's existing and barely hanging on. I was sick and tired of feeling that way and I didn't know how to not feel that way, so I got help.
