Little is known about Chris` early life and education, however, he apparently started drawing when he was just six, and when he turned 12, he created his first comic book. Since the early days he was a fan of the video game “Dungeons & Dragons”, and novels Star Wars and Dragonlace, which inspired him to start a career of his own.

He applied for a graphic designer position at Blizzard after a friend`s recommendation, however, he thought it was a graphic designer studio, instead of game developing studio. His first project at Blizzard was the Justice League Task Force, a competitive fighting game, for which he created artwork and character animation, also working on artwork, illustrations and the game`s documentation for Warcraft: Orcs And Humans. Little by little his role in the studio increased, and for the Warcraft II: Tides Of Darkness, he created the universe and also designed several missions and scenarios. The following year, Blizzard released Diablo, which would became a very successful game; Chris co-created the universe of the game alongside Bill Roper. For the sequel of Diablo, Diablo II released in 2000, Chris created the story, artwork and script as well. He was then appointed as creative director for the Warcraft III: Reign Of Chaos, and also provided the game`s story, concept and script. His net worth was rising steadily.

In the following games, Metzen also served as creative director. He wasn`t a big part of the multiplayer online role playing game World Of Warcraft, however, he still contributed by writing scripts, and also gave voice to several characters from the game, including Thrall, Ragnaros and Vol`jin, among others. He also lent his voice to numerous characters from various games, including Marine, Battlecruiser, Ghost from StarCraft, and Bastion from Overwatch, among others.

From then on, he focused more on solo work; he created a graphic novel series, entitled Soldier: 76, and the title character appeared later in the video game Overwatch. In 2012, he published a digital comic series Transformers: Autocracy, as a collaboration with author Flint Dille and artist Livio Ramondelli. Trio is currently working on its sequel, called Transformers: Monstrosity.

Regarding his personal life, Metzen has been married to Kat Hunter since 2013, but the two have been together for years, and have three children.
