He attended The Hotchkiss School, and after matriculating went to Harvard College, where he would have his first experience reporting for the school’s radio station. After graduating, he was accepted at Yale Law School, but opted to take a job with The Boston Globe, seeing as he wanted to pursue a career in television journalism.
In 1975 he started working for NBC, and stayed with the network for fourteen years, working first as a reporter for WNBC-TV, and then becoming a political correspondent for “NBC News”, followed by the job as the co-anchor of the “Today” show in 1982.
