Christopher Play Martin grew up in New York City, where he matriculated from the High School of Art and Design, after which he enrolled at Lehman College in the Bronx.

His career began in the mid- 1980s, when he was an MC for the group Quicksilver and the Super Lovers; while being a part of the group he met and befriended Christopher “Kid” Reid, who performed under the name Kid Coolout in the group The Turnout Brothers. After a while, other group members beside Martin and Reid moved on, while the two formed the hip hop duo Kid`n Play.

With Reid, Christopher worked on three studio albums; their debut album, entitled “2 Hype”, came out in 1988, and achieved gold status while reaching No. 96 on the Billboard 200, and No. 9 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Two years later, their second album was released, under the title “Kid ‘n Play’s Funhouse”, and again achieved gold status, which only increased Martin`s net worth. Also, the album reached No. 58 on the Billboard 200 chart, and No. 11 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.

Before disbanding, duo released one more album “Face the Nation” in 1991, which spawned the hit “Ain`t Gonna Hurt Nobody”, which topped the Hot Rap Singles.

Thanks to his successful career as a musician, Christopher launched an acting career, debuting in the film “House Party”, as Peter “Play” Martin, and repeating his role in the sequels “House Party 2” (1991), and “House Party 3” (1994). In 1992, he appeared in the film “Class Act”, and in 1999 featured in “Rising to the Top”. His most recent credit includes an appearance in the film “Funny Business” in 2014, which has also contributed to his net worth.

Christopher also worked as the hip hop teacher at North Carolina Central University, but was made redundant from the facility due to budget cuts in 2009. Currently he works as a professional-in-residence with the Institute for Hip Hop and Music Industry Studies at Florida A & M University
