Chuck D Wiki Biography

Born on 1st August 1960, in Queens, New York City USA, Carlton Douglas Ridenhour is popular as Chuck D, a rapper and master in hip-hop music, and the founder of the renowned hip-hop group named ‘Public Enemy’, best recognised and respected for his catchy hip-hop music with a message.

So just how rich is Chuck D? Sources estimate that Chuck D has a net worth of $15 million, accumulated during a career in the entertainment industry spanning more than 30 years.

Chuck D Net Worth $15 Million

It was during his schooling period that Chuck was attracted to music and even made some radio appearances. Born to a political activist couple, Chuck was actually offered an architectural scholarship in a prestigious university, but to his parents’ dismay, he turned down the offer, instead attending Adelphi University and graduating with a Master of Fine Arts degree in graphic design in 1984.

Chuck gave his on-stage debutant appearance in 1987 for ‘Public Enemy’ and since then there is no looking back!

‘It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back’ was the first and The other side of him was a truly inspirational speaker who was invited to many colleges for speeches. T.V shows invited him to have a word on public matters.

Chuck D has given some significant music to the world. His works include The Yo! Bum Rush Show(1987), It Takes a Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back(1988) – considered the most recognized and popular album in Chuck’s life which has probably contributed most to his net worth – Fear of a Black Planet(1990), Apocalypse 91 The Enemy Strikes Back(1991), Greatest Misses(1992), Muse Sick-n-Hour Mess Age(1994), and the soundtrack album for the film “He Got Game”(1998), He also worked for documentary series ‘Blues’ on PBS. All these activities contributed steadily to Chuck D’s net worth

Thereafter, in 1999 on the website ‘rapstation.com’ Chuck created and launched his supersite , which became a very popular global platform for downloading free MP3 songs, ringtones, listening to popular hip hop DJ’s and even supporting rap careers as a mainstream profession and turning it into a living.

Chuck has lent his voice to the very popular game series ‘Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’. He even contributed his music for the television show ‘Dark Angel’ in collaboration with ‘Gary G Whiz’ and ‘MC Lyte’.

Wanting to become a sports announcer since childhood, Chuck D did a commentary for ‘NBA Ballers: chosen one”- a video game on X-Box 360 and play station 3. Then Chuck D wrote the preface for the book written by Akila Butler and Kamau entitled, ‘The Love Ethic’.

Chuck D’s band ‘The Public Enemy’ has released over 12 studio albums, four videos and 39 singles which have turned-out to be a real hit with his fans.

In his personal life, Gaye Theresa Johnson is the wife of Chuck D and a professor in University of California, who works for the black studies department. Apart from being perfectionist in his career, Chuck D has also contributed to society on a variety of issues ranging from politics to civil rights, and is a panelist of ‘Trans Africa Forum’, an organization that works for Latin American, African and Caribbean issues.

1On Gil Scott Heron in 2010: You can go into Ginsberg and the Beat poets and Dylan, but Gil Sott-Heron is the manifestation of the modern world. He and the Last Poets set the stage for everyone else.
2[on getting permission to enter Canada] We've had heavy security problems at the border since the 1990s. It's the roughest border on the planet. To me it resembles the Berlin Wall. I experienced having to be searched by cops and dogs coming through western Germany to go back to Berlin, and I'm here to tell you that that seemed more humane.
3Rap is black America's TV station.
4Eminem is the new (Elvis Presley') because, number one, he has the respect for black music that Elvis had. I think he's courteous and sympathetic to black music and, unfortunately, he's more sympathetic to black music than many black artists themselves.
5As a musicologist, and I consider myself one, there was always a great deal of respect for Elvis (Elvis Presley'), especially during his Sun sessions. As a black people, we all knew that. My whole thing was the one-sidedness like Elvis' icon status in America made it like nobody else counted. My heroes came from someone else. My heroes came before him. My heroes were probably his heroes. As far as Elvis being "The King", I couldn't buy that.
