Clinton Portis Wiki Biography

Clinton Earl Portis is a former American Football running back, born on 1st of September 1981 in Laurel, Mississippi USA. He played in the National Football League(NFL) for nine seasons, playing college football before being drafted by the Denver Broncos in the 2002 NFL Draft. He is best known for being the starting running back for seven seasons for the Washington Redskins, which included him as one of the 80 Greatest Redskins.

Have you ever wondered how rich Clinton Portis is? According to sources it has been estimated that Clinton Portis is in nearly $5 million in debt. Despite his successful career, significant contracts and awards, Portis now owes money to various creditors, including mortgage payments, back taxes and casinos.

During his schooling at the University of Miami, Clinton played for the Miami Hurricanes football team; he was only the second true freshman to start at running back since the 1975 season, and set a school freshman record with five 100-yard game performances. In 2001, when the Hurricanes won the National Championship, Portis had his best season scores. Apart from his career in American football, Clinton was an outstanding track athlete for the Gainesville High School track team, and was then a member of the varsity track team.

In the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft, he was selected by the Denver Broncos, and while playing for this team, he became the youngest player to score four touchdowns in a 31-24 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. However, the Broncos traded Portis in the 2004 NFL Draft, and he signed an eight-year, $50.5 million contract with the Redskins. After a rough period of adjustment, Portis broke the team’s franchise record for the most rushing yards in a season with 1.516, and became the third runner in league history to reach 1500 yards in three of his first four seasons. However, in August 2006, he suffered from a shoulder injury which prevented him from playing for a while, but his return in the Redskins’ “Monday Night Football” game resulted in Clinton gaining 39 yards on 10 carries with one touchdown. Despite good results, he was troubled by injuries all season and left one game with a broken right arm. The Redskins decided to guarantee Portis’ 2008-09 and a part of his 2010 base salaries with a $9 million “signing bonus” after restructuring. However, during a game versus the Atlanta Falcons, Clinton suffered a concussion, left the game and had to be put on injured reserve – this injury took him four months to recover from.

The 2010 season only saw Portis in five games as various abdomen and groin injuries continued to trouble him. Finally, in February 2011 he was released by the Redskins, and Clinton eventually announced his retirement in August 2012 after making it onto the list of the 80 Greatest Redskins of All-Time.

Upon retiring, he and three other former players joined in a lawsuit against the NFL over concussions and other head injuries, however, due to various circumstances, Portis’ wealth dispersed and he has filed for bankruptcy. He allegedly owes money to several creditors, including a casino.

When it comes to his personal life, Clinton hasn’t been in a publicly known relationship, but he has two sons. He is the cousin of Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Josh Portis.

In April 2014 he was inducted into the UM Sports Hall of Fame in Miami.
