1Her four octave vocal range.
2Her distinctive raspy voice.
3Her offbeat fashion sense
4Wild hair that changes colors often
5Known for her Queens, New York accent
1[on the music video "Girls Just Want to Have Fun"] It was very important to me that every girl was represented - Hispanic girls, African-American girls. I told Edd (Griles - the video director) that we had to have multiracial people too. At that time, everybody who was in videos was either all white or all black. I figured, "You know what? Here's what I see missing. Let's go for it." There still wasn't as much integration as there should have been, but I feel like a lot of little girls who saw the video saw themselves, and that was the most important thing.
2My mother said I was a little odd as a kid. I was alone a lot, but I didn't feel alone. When I sang with those records, I'd be Julie Andrews and there was Rex Harrison sitting on my mother's bed. I was Mitzi Gaynor. I was Ezio Pinza. I think she had Mary Martin too - I was all of them. I was pretty good until they sang duets.
3When "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" came out, I was thirty. They were saying "How old are you?". And even then I was like "Why? You think I'm a car? You need to check under the hood and kick the tires?".
4There have been great things that happened to me. If they didn't happen to me, I wouldn't be here. Everything was supposed to happen to me. I wouldn't have the sight that I have, I wouldn't have the creative moments that I have, I wouldn't be able to articulate what I need to articulate. I wouldn't have my son. I wouldn't have my husband. I'm a lucky woman. Everything. Every single thing. There are no mistakes.
5(on her album "At Last") It was an idea to do a special project. because people would come see me live and go, "Gee, I didn't know she could sing." And I'd be like, "Yeah, you ever tried to sing 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun', pal?".
6You can't stamp out individuality - there's too many of us.
7I lucked out when I started to sing. I'd already experienced failing at everything else
8On being a feminist: I'm a bra-burner from way back!
9You can laugh when I talk, but not when I sing. People used to throw rocks at me for my clothes... now they wanna know where I buy them.
10I absolutely refuse to reveal my age. What am I - a car?
11You always have to remember - no matter what you're told - that God loves all the flowers, even the wild ones that grow on the side of the highway.
1She was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording at 6243 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on April 11, 2016.
2In the book "Cyndi Lauper" by Steve Radlaur, a list of jobs she did short-term in the 1970s were listed, including ear piercer. In her autobiography, she revealed she only pierced one ear and could not even finish because she did not have the stomach for the work.
3While working as a maid/nanny in the early 1970s, her dog Sparkle was run over by a tractor driven by a five-year-old on his birthday. The vet explained there would be hope if Sparkle lived through the night, and she eventually recovered.
4In preparing for the music video "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", there was a small budget so Cyndi bought furniture and painted the sets for the living room and her bedroom, found a tablecloth with a pattern to copy for the kitchen walls so it would have a very 1950s look, handed out her collection of sunglasses to all the girls for the shoot, and shared her makeup with all the women.
5Featured as a (2010) Mattel Barbie Doll in the Ladies of the '80s Pink Label Collection [#R4461] along with Debbie Harry and Joan Jett. [July 2009]
6She was awarded a Tony Award for Best Score in a Musical for "Kinky Boots" at the 2013 Tony Awards.
7(November 8, 2012) Her uncle, George Stathis, 90, was found dead in his Queens, New York home, after Hurricane Sandy.
8Is a staunch liberal Democrat and an active supporter of gay rights.
9On Press Your Luck (1983), there was a Whammy based on her.
10Her most successful songs are "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" (1983, #2 US and UK), "Time After Time" (1984, #1 US, #2 UK), "She Bop" (1984, #3 US), "All Through The Night" (1984, #6 US), "True Colors" (1986, #1 US), "Change of Heart" (1986, #3 US) and "I Drove All Night" (1989, #6 US, #7 UK).
11Honored by PFLAGG for her support of Gay families after appearing with her Lesbian sister in a PFLAGG sponsored campaign (2005).
12Is good friends with WWF wrestler Lou Albano.
13Helped produce "Captain Lou's History of Music" on The Wrestling Album in 1985, appearing under the name Mona Flambé. Jesse Ventura (aka Jesse "The Body" Ventura) then referred to her as Mona Flamboyant.
14Attended the same High school as Rodney Dangerfield and New York Yankee shortstop Phil Rizzuto - Richmond Hill, Queens.
15Known for her outrageous antics, perhaps her wildest yet was appearing at a 1997 Halloween ball to raise money for AMFAR dressed as a belly dancer - when she was nine months pregnant. She drolly vogued it up for the tabloid paparazzi, who eagerly snapped hundreds of photos of her.
16She has a beach house in South Carolina.
17Ranked #58 on VH1's 100 Greatest Women of Rock N Roll
18She has Italian ancestry by her mother's side (Sicily) and Swiss ancestry by her father's side. Her mother's maiden name is Gallo.
19Lives in a famous Manhattan apartment house on the West Side called the Apthorp.
20Her parents are Fred Lauper and Catrine Lauper. Her siblings are Elen and Fred. Sister Elen Lauper ran for the mayorship of Phoenix and is a member of the Socialist Workers Party, a radical-leftist political group.
21She appeared in the music video and sang in the choir on the song We Are The World: The Story Behind The Song (1985).
22At the beginning of her music video "Time After Time", she is watching the film The Garden of Allah (1936).
23Her first band, Blue Angel, was named after the film "Der Blaue Engel (The Blue Angel)".
