Daniel Keenan Savage was born on the 7th October 1964, in Chicago, Illinois USA, and is an author, journalist, theatre director, and LGBT activist, best known for his weekly syndicated sex-advice column called Savage Love. His career started in 1991, when he began working as a columnist.
Have you ever wondered how rich Dan Savage is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Savage’s net worth is as high as $3 million, an amount earned through his successful career in writing and journalism.
Dan Savage Net Worth $3 Million
Dan Savage was one of four siblings to parents Judith and William Savage, Sr; his mother was a Loyola University professor. He possesses Irish and German heritage, and was raised Catholic. He educated at Quigley Preparatory Seminary North, but now identifies as an agnostic, or atheist. After matriculating, he enrolled at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, from where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in theatre.
Savage’s career started slowly, working as a video store manager after he settled in Madison, Wisconsin, having lived abroad in Europe for a few years. However, he soon became friends with one of the founders of the satirical news organization, The Onion, who decided to include an advice column section into his new media venture, The Stranger, per Savage’s advice. Savage landed that job when he wrote a trial piece, demonstrating in which direction he wanted to take the column. It revolved around giving sarcastic relationship and sex advice to heterosexual people, since so many heterosexual columnists could never answer the questions of the LGBT community very well. Yet, he also offered his opinion and advice on matters such as contraception and HPV vaccine, noting that conservativism is threatening the health and rights of homosexual and heterosexual people alike.
In addition to his column, Savage decided to try his hand in book writing, starting with his first non-fiction book “Savage Love: Straight Answers from America’s Most Popular Sex Columnist” (1998), which included a collection of his previous columns. He wrote three more non-fiction books, each detailing some aspect of experiences and difficulties he encountered as a gay person. For his third book, “Skipping Towards Gomorrah” (2002) he won a Lambda Literary Award. Besides his own work, Savage also contributed to numerous publications and collections of essays, writing prefaces, forewords, or a chapter of his own.
Additionally, he proved his creativity as a theatre director, often working under the pseudonym Keenan Hollohan. He founded Seattle’s Greek Active Theater, and incorporated many bizarre interpretations of classic works in his plays. His last production was the play “Letters from the Earth” (2003), dedicated to Mark Twain and his posthumous letters. Savage is also no stranger to media appearances, acting as a media pundit for Steven Colbert on “The Colbert Report”, and Bill Maher on “Real Time with Bill Maher”.
Regarding his personal life, Savage is married to Terry Miller, and they have one adopted son. They first married in Canada, but then received a marriage license in Washington, once the US legalized same-sex marriage. Both he and his husband are active supporters of LGBT rights, and causes such as preventing bullying of gay teenagers. He started a non-profit organization called It Gets Better in order to fight bullying, and prevent suicide among gay youth.

To leave the house as the incredibly swishy, fierce gay hairdresser takes a lot more courage than to leave the house as Jason Collins.I really like Jason Collins and respect him. But the world became safe for the gender-conforming basketball player to come out because the hairdressers couldn't hide. And I think that is masculine as all fucking hell.

I give a wicked blow-job. "I don't like it" isn't a good enough reason to use the force of the state to stop it. I don't like cunnilingus. I'm not going to use the force of the state to prevent that from happening.

[ on his and his partner's website dedicated to assist troubled lesbian, gay, bisexual and transcended youths] One day, when your daughter or son tells you that they were watching 'It Gets Better' videos under the covers in the middle of the night when you were failing your child so spectacularly, you will realize that we stepped in and stepped up and were the parent in that moment that you couldn't be, and you will thank us for loving your child.

[on the marriage equality victories for same-sex marriage, 2012] Rights are rights. They shouldn't be put up for a vote. And we shouldn't have to say 'thank you' when they're recognized. The sad fact is that we have had to fight for our rights. But here's the happy fact: we didn't have to fight this one alone. Thousands and thousands of straight people stood with us and fought for us. We had help. And that's what we should thank the straight-people for. Not for granting our rights - rights are rights - but for joining our fight.

Sex in porn bears about as much resemblance to real-life sex as action movies bear to real-life life.
