Daniel started playing music at a young age, first with the violin, however, when bullies destroyed the instrument he then changed to playing the piano. He suffers from dyslexia and had trouble studying music when he got into university, which led him to drop out and pursue a musical career. He started learning songs by ear and creating new melodies, and then began writing songs. In 2000, he released the EP “I’m Your Betty” which had a very limited print, but the songs “Negative Fashion” and “More Than I” would be featured in the television show “Higher Ground”, laying the ground for his net worth.

In mid-2005, Powter then released his first single “Bad Day” as part of a promotion for his upcoming self-titled debut album. The song was chosen by Coca-Cola as a theme song for their ad campaign in Europe, and led to heavy airplay, so its popularity quickly spread in European countries. It peaked in third spot of the European airplay chart, and found the top spot in Germany and Italy, and also found high spots in the UK as well as Australia. The song was also extensively used in the US television series “American Idol” during its fifth season, and so reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100, which no Canadian male artist had done since Bryan Adams. His net worth started to increase dramatically at this point.

In the same year, he performed in Berlin, and the song “Bad Day” would finish fifth in voting for British Record of the Year. In 2006, he won New Artist of the Year at the Canadian Juno Awards, and also had several nominations, including for a Grammy Award in 2007. Other singles from “Daniel Powter” were released, but failed to match the success of “Bad Day”.

In 2008, Daniel was featured in the song “Find My Way” by Japanese singer Haru. He then released the album “Under the Radar” and would provide piano for various tracks such as in John Wozniak’s solo album “Leaving Wonderland… in a fit of rage”. The following year, he was named as the decade’s top One-Hit Wonder by Billboard. In 2010, he released a greatest hits album entitled “Best of Me” and also a tribute to English singer John Lennon. He then took a hiatus from music, returning in 2012 to create the album “Turn on the Lights”. He was featured in another Japanese song by May J entitled “Back To Your Heart”. One of his latest projects is a new single called “Delicious” released in 2017.

For his personal life, it is rumoured that Daniel is married and has two children. It is his second marriage – his first went through a divorce. He has also suffered from drug and alcohol addiction but eventually conquered it.
