Darla Dee Moore was born on the 1st August 1954, in Lake City, California USA, and is a businesswoman, best known to the world for being a partner in Rainwater Inc., an investment company, founded by her now deceased husband Richard Rainwater.

Darla is the daughter of Eugene Moore and his wife Loraine. She grew up with her sister on a farm, on which was produced cotton, soybean and tobacco as well. Darla attended Lake City High school, and after matriculation enrolled at the University of South Carolina. She graduated in 1975 with a BA degree in political science, after which Darla continued her education at the George Washington University, obtaining an MBA degree, and soon afterwards was employed at the Chemical Bank as a trainee with other MBAs.

Darla`s career really began in the 1980s, and in no time she made a name for herself by successively and successfully managing companies which were going through the bankruptcy process. Her biggest success was the successful takeover of Messa Inc. which was near bankruptcy but under her management became one of the more profitable firms. For that accomplishment, she received several accolades, including being named as The Toughest Babe in Business by Fortune magazine. After that, she became more focused on her husband`s firm – Rainwater Inc. – serving as President of the company from 1993. She was noticed by the media once again, when in 1999 she played a critical part in discovering Rick Scott`s wrongdoings at the Columbia/HCA, involving a scandal over medicare.

In 2012, Darla was invited to become a member of the prestigious Augusta National Golf Club, one of two women members, with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice being the other one.

Regarding her personal life, Darla was married to Richard Rainwater from 1991 until his death in 2015 from progressive supranuclear palsy, although they had lived separately since 2001. They had a son together.

Darla is a well-known philanthropist; so far she has donated over $100 million to various causes, including education, arts, and others. Some of the most notable donations include $25 million for the business school at the USC, which was then renamed to Moore Business School, $10 million for the School of Education at Clemson University, and $5 million to McNair Center for Aerospace Innovation and Research Center also located in USC, among other donations.
