Darla is the daughter of Eugene Moore and his wife Loraine. She grew up with her sister on a farm, on which was produced cotton, soybean and tobacco as well. Darla attended Lake City High school, and after matriculation enrolled at the University of South Carolina. She graduated in 1975 with a BA degree in political science, after which Darla continued her education at the George Washington University, obtaining an MBA degree, and soon afterwards was employed at the Chemical Bank as a trainee with other MBAs.
Darla`s career really began in the 1980s, and in no time she made a name for herself by successively and successfully managing companies which were going through the bankruptcy process. Her biggest success was the successful takeover of Messa Inc. which was near bankruptcy but under her management became one of the more profitable firms.
