Dave Murray Net Worth $15 Million
Born in Edmonton, London, England, Murray had a rough childhood growing up. His father was disabled and his mother was the only earner for the family by working as a cleaner. Because of his mother’s job, their family moved constantly, making it hard for him to make any friends.
During his teen years, Murray became involved in lots of fights, and joined a skinhead gang. His violent years ended when at 15 he heard Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Chile” on the radio, and it changed his life, as he eventually fell in love with music. He hung around records stores and bought a couple of Jimi Hendrix records to enhance his knowledge on the artist’s style. At 16, he decided to learn how to play guitar, and created his own band named Stone Free.
After founding his own band, Murray also auditioned in other bands on the weekends, including for Iron Maiden as the bands guitarist, and the band’s founder, Steve Harris eventually chose Murray and officially became part of the band in 1976.
Despite winning the spot, Murray eventually left Iron Maiden after a couple of months when he and vocalist Dennis Wilcock got into a fight after a show. Murray transferred to another group called Urchin, with friend Adrian Smith, but when Wilcock departed the band, Murray was once again invited to join Iron Maiden and accepted the offer. While playing with the band, he also worked as a store keeper for Hackney Council to make ends meet. His early years with Iron Maiden helped start his career in music and also his net worth.
In 1979, after playing in various clubs and venues, Murray and the band were finally able to sign a contract with recording label, EMI, which started the band’s immediate success, not just in London but around the world.
Up to the present, Murray and Iron Maiden have released a total of 38 albums, 16 of which are studio albums, 11 live albums, seven compilations, and four EP. The band has constantly toured around the world, and is known as one of the greatest rock bands of all time. The success of the band has tremendously increased Murray’s net worth over the years.
In terms of his personal life, Murray has been married to Tamar since 1985, and together they have a daugher. The family is based in Maui, Hawaii.

1 | When I was a teenager, I discovered Jimi Hendrix, and everything changed, just like that. Getting into rock music wasn't a gradual process for me, it was completely sort of extreme. Totally black and white. I heard Voodoo Chile on the radio and I thought, Bloody hell! What is THAT? How do you do THAT? And I became like a detective, you know, exploring the rock music records in the stores, dreaming about playing a guitar in a band and hitting the big time, wondering what that would be like. |
