David Cross was born on 4 April 1964, in Atlanta, Georgia USA, of Jewish and English ancestry. Cross is an actor, writer and stand-up comedian best known for his performances in various television shows such as “Mr. Show”. David was also part of the series “Arrested Development”, and was the character Ian Hawke in the “Alvin and the Chipmunks” films. The opportunity he’s had have helped raise his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is David Cross? As of early-2016, sources inform us of a net worth that is at $10 million, mostly earned through a successful career in acting, writing and comedy. He’s worked on a variety of projects, and has a summer home which he attributes to the money he earned with “Alvin and the Chipmunks”. David is also one of the first investors in the crowd-funding platform Kickstarter. All of these have helped raise his wealth.
David Cross Net Worth $10 Million
David was born into a poor family and had a poor upbringing, which led to him moving around and even spending time in motels and houses of friends while growing up. After graduating from high school, he relocated to New York City and tried his hand at a lawn care company before enrolling in Emerson College. There he met John Ennis and the two would propel each other into the acting and comedy scene. He dropped-out of Emerson after a semester and became part of the comedy club Catch a Rising Star which featured prominent comedians. He continued to make a name for himself and would later be heard on radio programs including “The Last Run” and “A Hearing”. He continues working in stand-up and released comedy specials for both HBO and Comedy Central.
His first work on television came as a writing job for “The Ben Stiller Show”. Despite being put in the show nearing its end, he became part of sketches and made appearances which would win him an Emmy. He would then create the series “Mr. Show” in 1995. Afterwards, David was given the chance to be part of “Arrested Development” and then later found other opportunities such as “The Colbert Report”, “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” (, and “The Drew Carey Show”. He worked on the film called “Run Ronnie Run”, but issues forced it to be released straight to video.
Cross has also used his voice for video games, helping the production of big titles including “Halo 2” and “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas”. He then made appearances in music videos such as “Juicebox”, “Use It”, and “Sugarcube.” Eventually he would get the chance to become part of the “Alvin and the Chipmunks” franchise, and would then write his first book called “I Drink For A Reason”. By 2014, he had his first chance at being director in the film “Hits” which was one of the first films to be distributed via Bit Torrent. As of today, Cross still works on new comedy shows, and does stand-up performances.
For his personal life, it is known that David married Amber Tamblyn in 2012, an actress 19 years younger than him. He also mentioned that he was raised Jewish but is now an atheist. He’s been the topic of criticisms and has also clashed with other comedians as well, including Larry the Cable Guy and James Lipton.

[on Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked (2011)] This last film was literally, without question, the most unpleasant experience I've ever had in my professional life. It's safe to say I won't be working with some of those people ever again. Not the actors. And the director [Mike Mitchell] was great. We got along. There were a couple of people, though...it was just a really awful, unpleasant experience.
2
[2012, on Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked (2011)] All I wanted was to get the fuck out of there as soon as possible. They encouraged me to improvise and come up with funnier lines if I wanted. But my entire strategy on those movies was to come in on time, shoot as much as I could as quickly as I could and then get the hell out of there and buy a summer home with the check.
3
(2012) I love nudity. It's just such an easy, cheap laugh. And it's fun to do. I have no qualms whatsoever about taking my clothes off for no reason.
4
(2012, on working with Jim Belushi) We were working on a movie together [1995's Destiny Turns on the Radio], and his behavior was reprehensible, shitty and awful. I don't want to rehash what he did, but from that point on he was fair game. My girlfriend and I were visiting friends on Martha's Vineyard, and I saw in the local paper that Belushi was performing. We went to the show, and it was like $45 to see his shitty cover band, which is basically just a vanity project. I decided to hop on stage and dance with him. I got kicked off, and then I hopped on again. I thought it was hilarious that I got kicked out of the club. Jim Belushi is such a cock.

[on drugs] I still get curious about whatever new drug comes down the pike. There was a long period when I indulged in drugs, but I don't think I was ever addicted to any of them. I do think crack is addictive. I smoked it once, and it was a huge wake-up call ... When it came time to get some more, I knew very clearly that if I stayed there-and I wanted to-my life would change right then and there for the worse. I never touched crack again.
Engaged to Amber Tamblyn [August 17, 2011]. They have been together since 2009.
5
Ridiculed the Bravo interview series, Inside the Actors Studio (1994), in both his stand-up comedy and on Mr. Show with Bob and David (1995). He later acted alongside its host, James Lipton, in several episodes of Arrested Development (2003) where, despite some initial awkwardness, the two got along well with Cross praising Lipton's comedic performance while maintaining that he "didn't care for" Lipton's interview series.
6
His British father and American mother divorced when he was very young.
7
In long-term relationship with Amber Tamblyn (2009).
