At 17 years of age, he became involved in a car crash that he managed to survive, and this led him to fix his life. He attended Northeastern University and studied biomedical engineering, but then transferred to economics and accounting before dropping out entirely to pursue acting.

In 1985 David moved to California and attended Drama Studio London to study acting, working as a bartender while pursuing acting projects. Two years later, he got his big break when he was a guest star in “Wiseguy”, playing a mobster who impersonated Lorenzo Steelgrave. He then appeared in a Pepsi “Diner” commercial in 1989, which was also broadcast in the UK.

He was also part of the drama “Civil Wars” from 1991 to 1993, playing the role of bicycle messenger Jeffrey Lassick. In 1994, he was cast in “Due South”, in which he played Ray Vecchio for two seasons; eventually his character was written out and was replaced by Detective Stanley Kowalski, but he had to opt out of the role due to other acting commitments, although he did make a return in the series finale in 1999. Other roles he had during this time included making an appearance in an episode of “Touched By An Angel” in which he played a man in need of a heart transplant. He also had a role in the mini-series “The Last Don” as Giorgio Clericuzio.
