Dawn Michelle Staley was born on the 4th May 1970, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA, and is a basketball coach and former professional basketball player who competed in the WNBA for Charlotte Sting and Houston Comets. Dawn Staley went to Murrell Dobbins Tech High School in Philadelphia, where she was the basketball player of the year in her senior year. Later, she studied at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, from 1988 to 1992, helping her team to reach four NCAA Tournaments, three Final Fours and one National Championship game. After her graduation in 1992, Staley moved to Europe where she played basketball in France, Italy, and Spain, before coming back home to join the Richmond Rage in 1996.
In 1999, Staley was selected as the 9th overall pick by the Charlotte Sting where she played from 1999 to 2005 and led them to the WNBA Championship game in 2001. Staley was traded to the Houston Comets in 2005, and she retired after that season.
