Dermot Mulroney was born on 31 October 1963, in Alexandria, Virginia USA, to mother Ellen, a housewife and amateur actress, and father Michael Mulroney, a law professor and amateur race-car driver, of Irish descent. He is an actor and director, perhaps best known for his roles in the films “Young Guns”, “Where the Day Takes You”, “The Last Outlaw”, “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and the television series “Crisis”.
A famous actor, how wealthy is Dermot Mulroney? Sources state that Mulroney has earned a net worth over $9 million, as of mid-2016, acquired largely during his acting career now stretching over 30 years.
Dermot Mulroney Net Worth $9 Million
Mulroney grew up in Alexandria along with his four siblings, and attended Maury Elementary School. Already at an early age he had learned to play cello and began performing in school and with local youth orchestras, which led him to attend the Interlochen Arts Camp as a cellist. He also developed an interest in acting, and joined a children’s community theater. After matriculating from T. C. Williams High School in 1981, he enrolled at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, to study film and television production. While at college, Mulroney caught the eye of a visiting agent from Hollywood, which led him to move to Los Angeles and start his professional acting career after his graduation in 1985.
His career started with a series of television movies in the late ’80s, such as “The Drug Knot”, “Sin of Innocence”, “Daddy” and “Long Gone”. In 1988 he took a starring role in the Emilio Estevez-Kiefer Sutherland western “Young Guns”, as ‘Dirty Steve’ Stephens. The following year brought him several film roles, among which the role as a gay man who dies from AIDS in the drama “Longtime Companion”, the performance which earned him rave reviews. His net worth was at its start.
During the early ’90s Mulroney was seen in movies such as “Career Opportunities”, “Where the Day Takes You”, “Point of No Return”, “The Thing Called Love”, “Bad Girls”, “The Last Outlaw” and “How to Make an American Quilt”. Opportunities continued to come his way, and the actor went on to take roles in a number of other ’90s movies, including “Living In Oblivion” in which he also served as an associate producer. In 1997 he starred as Michael O’Neal, in the middle of the characters played by Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz, in the romantic comedy film “My Best Friend’s Wedding”. All added to his wealth.
The 2000s saw Mulroney in the popular television series “Friends”, playing Rachel’s date Gavin Mitchell. He landed numerous film roles during this period, such as in “The Wedding Date”, “The Family Stone”, “Griffin & Phoenix”, “Georgia Rule”, “Abduction” and “The Grey”, among many others. He also provided the voice for the character of Rod in the film “Hair High”, for Dante in the comedy “Dante’s Inferno”, as well as for Green Lantern Hal Jordan in the animated series “The Batman”. These added to his net worth too.
He had a recurring role in the hit series “New Girl” and “Enlightened”, and in 2014 Mulroney played Francis Gibson in the television series “Crisis”, and the following year was cast as Sean Pierce in the series “Shameless”.
Mulroney’s most recent movie appearances have been in the 2015 “Careful What You Wish For” and “Insidious: Chapter 3”, and in the 2016 “Dirty Grandpa”. He is currently filming the movie “Sleepless Night”.
In his private life, Mulroney married actress Catherine Keener in 1990, however, in 2007 the couple divorced. They have one son together. In 2008 the actor married Tharita Catulle with whom he has two daughters.
As a passionate cellist, Mulroney appeared on Alanis Morissette’s show at the House of Blues in Hollywood. He also played cello in a song for Melissa Etheridge’s 1992 album “Never Enough” and on the EP for Rain Phoenix’s band Papercranes. He has also contributed to scores for the movies “Mission Impossible III” and “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol”.

(On remaining friends with past co-stars) I do. Sometimes they won't sustain. It's kind of like going to summer camp where you get that close and then a lot of times you'll never see people again. Diane and I just talked a few times in the last six months, I guess. It's not like we're hanging out playing tennis. But every so often, every couple of movies, you actually get a really good friend. I think Luke Wilson and I hit it off really good on The Family Stone (2005). Some of my best friends are from having worked together. James Le Gros and Edward Norton, these are the keepers. But I've never run across actors that are just jerks and can't get along with. I've literally never encountered anybody whose behavior is just off the charts or impossible to deal with. Everyone just kind of does their [thing]. I think that's kind of gone out of style a little bit to be [a jerk].

(1997 - On his favorite films that he has done) I've always held Longtime Companion (1989) and Where the Day Takes You (1991) in a little higher regard than some of the more simply entertaining films I've done - they were films that had something to reveal to the world. Also, Living in Oblivion (1995) was a strange little achievement by a handful of people I really love.

(On Longtime Companion (1989)) I remember every second of it, from the first audition straight through to the wrap. I knew it was going to be a groundbreaking film by the time I'd read the first ten pages of Craig Lucas's script, because I'd never read anything like it before.
Mulroney appeared with James Garner in the 1988 theatrical film "Sunset". Years later, Mulroney inherited Garner's famous role of private detective Jim Rockford in the 2010 TV film "The Rockford Files".

Has 2 daughters, Mabel Ray Mulroney (born 2008) and Sally June Mulroney (born 2009) with wife, Tharita.

He got the scar on his lip from falling on a piece of glass when he was three.
6
Both of his parents were originally from Iowa.
7
Attended T.C. Williams High School, which later became the setting of a Disney movie with Denzel Washington.

All of his siblings have traditional Irish names (Conor, Kieran, Moira and Sean). Seven of his eight great-grandparents were of Irish descent, and one of his paternal great-grandmothers, Minnie Henrietta Musfeldt, was of German descent.
