Diego made his MMA debut in a fight against Michel Bastos, which he won via submission. However, his biggest and most important win to date remains against Brain Foster, a veteran of UFC, who he defeated in the first round. He later became a permanent member of Jackson’s MMA, and is now managed by New Idea Sports & Marketing.
It was in 2011 that Brandao signed with the UFC in order to compete on “The Ultimate Fighter: Team Bisping vs. Team Miller” show, in which he fought Jesse Newell to enter the Ultimate Fighter house, which made him the Team Bisping no. 1 featherweight pick. Fighting his way through the show, Diego made it to the semi-finals where he faced former WEC fighter Bryan Caraway whom he defeated via KO, securing him an entrance to the finale against Dennis Bermudez, Brandao’s official UFC debut in December 2011 at The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale, his victory being the first featherweight winner of “The Ultimate Fighter 14”, plus winning the “Fight of the Night” and “Submission of the Night” honors, with extra payment bonuses, significantly lifting his net worth.

However, a few months later, it was announced that Diego had tested positive for marijuana, and he was eventually released from the UFC on account of a felony arrest in April 2016. In October the same year he signed a contract to fight against Russian MMA superstar Rasul Mirzaev; his opponent pulled out of the bout two months later, however, the fight eventually took place at Fight Nights 5 in January 2017, when Brandao won.
When it comes to his private life, there is no information concerning his marital status. In April 2016 it was reported that Diego was arrested after allegedly hitting a strip club employee with a gun, but Brandao’s explanation of self-defence was accepted, and he was released on a $15,000 bond.
