He attended Instituto Marangoni in Milan to study fashion design, but he left just before graduation, confident in his ability. He decided to start working in fashion, with the dream of working for the fashion house Armani.
In 1980, while working for designer Giorgio Correggiari, Dolce met Stefano Gabbana. The two worked under Correggiari and later on started a romantic relationship. His early years working in fashion started his professional career as a designer and also his net worth.
In 1983, Dolce and Gabbana decided to leave Correggiari and start their own business. For two years, the duo worked as freelance designers until they opened their own fashion house “Dolce & Gabbanna” or D&G. They made their debut fashion show in Milan in 1985 at Collezioni’s Nuovi Talenti. The following year, they released their first collection – “Real Women” – and in 1987 opened their first store in Milan. The rapid success of their fashion house helped their careers and also their wealth.
After their success in Milan, Dolce and Gabbana expanded their horizons. and debuted their collection in Tokyo in 1989 and in New York in 1990. Slowly, they also added new collections to their line. From designing women’s wear, soon they also added lingerie and beach wear, and later on a menswear line. Later on they also expanded into creating a fragrance line. Their continued expansion and success tremendously helped their net worth.
With the growth of the company, Dolce and Gabbana also earned accolades. In 1991, the company was awarded the International Woolmark Prize, and in 1993 they also received the Best Fragrance of the Year award for their perfume line “Dolce and Gabbana Parfum.”
In 1993, Dolce and Gabbana received even more acclaim when pop star Madonna chose the duo to create her costumes for her whole “Girlie Show World Tour”. After the success that the partnership brought, more famous personalities have also worked with the two since then.
Today, Dolce and Gabbana is one of the biggest fashion houses in the world along the level of Gucci, Prada, Versace and Armani, Dolce’s dream of a fashion house when he was younger. Aside from creating elegant clothes known for loud prints and a bold statement, they now also create fashionable accessories including ties, handbags, belts, watches, sunglasses, and even footwear.
