Born in PolizziGenerosa, Sicily, Dolce is the son of Saverio Dolce, a tailor in Palermo, and Sara, who sells fabrics and clothing. He attended Instituto Marangoni in Milan to study fashion design, but he left just before graduation, confident in his ability. He decided to start working in fashion, with the dream of working for the fashion house Armani.

In 1980, while working for designer Giorgio Correggiari, Dolce met Stefano Gabbana. The two worked under Correggiari and later on started a romantic relationship. His early years working in fashion started his professional career as a designer and also his net worth.

In 1983, Dolce and Gabbana decided to leave Correggiari and start their own business. For two years, the duo worked as freelance designers until they opened their own fashion house “Dolce & Gabbanna” or D&G.
