Born in Columbia, South Carolina, Johnson grew up with three siblings to parents Kandee and Scott. In the late 90’s Johnson’s parents divorced, separating the three. Johnson discovered his love for golf at an early age whenever he and his father went to the driving range at Mid-Carolina Club in Prosperity, South Carolina, where his father was a golf pro.
He went on to attend and play for Coastal Carolina University, and in 2007 his amateur career started to gain attention when he won the Monroe Invitational and the Northeast Amateur. By the end of the year he had become a professional golfer, and earned his PGA Tour card in 2008.
Johnson’s career started to advance even more when he won his first PGA Tour event in late 2008 at the Turning Stone Resort Championship. In 2009, he won another tournament at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, and was subsequently ranked 15th on the PGA Tour by the end of the 2009 season.

He continued on his winning streak and won The Barclays in 2011 making it his fifth PGA victory. In 2012, although he encountered some back injuries, he continued on to win another event, the FedEx St. Jude Classic, making it his sixth, and in 2013 he won his seventh at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Of course all added to his net worth.
Johnson took a break from the world of sports for six months in 2014, saying that he wanted to work on some personal issues, though it was reported that it was due to some drug-related problems, Johnson denied the rumor and in early 2015 he returned to compete at the Farmers Insurance Open. By the end of 2015 he had a total of two amateur wins and 11 professional, and in total he had made almost $28 million in prize money after eight years of playing professional golf, and still counting, increasing his popularity and net worth.
Despite his busy career, Johnson started his own golf school in 2013, the Dustin Johnson Golf School, led by coach Allen Terrell.
In terms of his personal life, Johnson is engaged to Paulina Gretzky, daughter of famous hockey player Wayne Gretzky. The two met in 2013 and two years later, they welcomed their first child Tatum. The couple is yet to be married.
