Although born in Pikeville, Dwight grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and was educated at Northland High School until 1974, where he showed his talents, participating in school shows, such as Flowers For Algernon and various others. After school, he used to play in local bands, and also did some impersonations such as of Richard Nixon among others.
Dwight enrolled at Ohio State University, but dropped out, as he wanted to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. He moved to Los Angeles, and started to write and record his own songs, but also managing to find engagements in some punk and rock clubs in around LA.
Dwight`s debut release was the 1986 EP entitled “Guitars, Cadilacs, Etc., Etc.”, which Dwight paid for out of his pocket. The EP was a tremendous accomplishment as it hit No. 1 on the Billboard Country Album chart, which encouraged Dwight to continue to make music, and the next year he released his second album, entitled “Hillbilly Deluxe”, which also became a No. 1 album. Furthermore, his third album “Buenas Noches From A Lonely Room” released in 1988, also reached No.1 on the U.S. Billboard Top Country Albums. In 1993 he was a truck driver in the film “Red Rock West”, but soon his acting career prospects improved, and he began to feature in bigger roles, some of which are in films such as “South Of Heaven, West Of Hell” (2000) – for which he wrote soundtrack as well – “Panic Room” (2002), “Hollywood Homicide” (2003), “90 Minutes In Heaven” (2015), and he is now to appear in the film “Boomtown”, which is scheduled for a release in 2016.
