After matriculating, he attended the College of William and Mary, later moving to the Southern Methodist University, and graduating in 1980. Afterwards, he pursued a Masters in Fine Arts degree from the Yale School of Drama.
In 1986, Baker started to move forward with his acting career, appearing in numerous productions on Broadway, including “God of Carnage”, Mauritius”, and “Not About Heroes” which he won an Obie Award. For his personal life, it is known that Baker married actress Becky Gelke in 1990 and they have a daughter. In 2015, Baker tried to save the life of actress Vivien Eng who was caught in a fire in her apartment, however, she later succumbed to her injuries while in the hospital.
