Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. Net Worth $5 Million

Efrem Zimbalist Jr. was the son of Efrem Zimbalist, Sr., who was a violinist, and Alma Gluck, who was an opera singer. They raised him as a Christian, rejecting their Jewish heritage. After graduation from the Fay School in Southborough, Massachusetts, he attended Yale University, and through his studies, he went to acting classes at the Yale School of Drama, where he showed his acting skills. Side by side with his education, Efrem started to earn money as a page for the NBC radio station in New York City. Besides that, he served in the US Army during World War II, receiving several leg wounds at Huertgen Forest, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart.

Efrem`s acting career began as early as 1945, when he appeared on Broadway in “The Rugged Path”, alongside Spencer Tracy. Efrem had a successful career on stage, appearing also in “Androcles And The Lion” (1946), “Hedda Grabler” (1948), and “The Consul” (1950) among others, increasing his net worth steadily.

He also tried himself as a producer and director, winning the Pulitzer Prize for music used for the play “The Consul”.

Before he moved to Hollywood, Efrem made his acting debut on TV screens, in “Concerning Miss Marlowe” (1954-1955). In 1956, Efrem signed a contract with Warner Bros. and made a move to Hollywood; where he first experienced the glory of Hollywood in the TV series “Maverick” in 1957, portraying the gambler Dandy Jim Buckley. After t hat, Efrem was cast in the action TV series “77 Sunset Strip”, the popular series in several countries lasting from 1958 until 1964, and considerably enhancing his net worth. His net worth also increased in 1958 from his appearances in the films “Girl On The Run” (1958), and “Violent Road”.

In 1965, Efrem was chosen for the lead role of Inspector Lewis Erskine in the popular TV crime drama series “F. B. I.”, ,which became the main source of his net worth in the following years, since the series was shown until 1974.

Meantime, in 1967 Efrem starred in the film “Wait Until Dark”, alongside Audrey Hepburn and Alan Arkin. He was already a big name in the film industry; he lined up role after role in high profile films and TV series, including “Airport 1975” (1974), “The Best Place To Be” (1974), “Beyond Witch Mountain” (1982), “The Avenging” (1982), and “Remington Steele” (1983-1987).

In 1990, Efrem`s net worth increased by a large degree, as he was selected for the role of Don Alejandro De La Vega in the remake of “Zorro”. Furthermore, he played King Arthur in the TV series “The Legend Of The Prince Valiant” (1991-1993).

Before his retirement in 2008, Efrem had several more noteworthy roles, such as being the voice of Alfred in the animated TV series “The New Batman Adventures”; he had already been the voice of Dr. Octopus in the animated TV series “Spider-Man” from 1995-1997. Efrem repeated his role of Alfred in the TV series “Justice League” from 2003 to 2004.

His last role before retirement, was that of Dr. Engel in the short fantasy film entitled “Delivery”, which also contributed to his net worth.

When it comes to his personal life, Efrem Zimbalist Jr. was married twice. His first wife was Emily Munroe McNair, and they had a son and a daughter. After Emily’s death, Efrem married Loranda Stephanie Spaulding in 1956, with whom he had a daughter. Efrem was a big supporter and practitioner of Transcendental Meditation.

1Deep smooth voice
1Having been kept pretty strict in prep schools, I guess I couldn't cope with all the freedom at Yale. I had a wild, wonderful time, got abysmal grades and was bounced out in my freshman year. I then came back the following fall as a repeating freshman, lasted until April and got bounced out again -- for the same reason. This time I quit.
2As for the year 2000 being the time for Armageddon, Jesus himself said: "Even the son doesn't know. Only the father knows." So if Jesus didn't know, you can be sure I've got no idea.
3I happen to believe that the liberating movements of our time are devised and thought up, not for the people they are supposed to champion, but to splinter society. In the case of women's liberation, if the state gets the women out of the house working, they can get to the children and bring them up. I thing that has been the game plan all along.
4I don't even know the people who are making movies today. I stopped going to the movies over 20 years ago. The movies I used to be fanatic about they stopped making. They started making another kind of movie, and it's not my kind of world.
1His daughter Nancy Zimbalist died in 2012.
2In 2009, FBI Director Robert Mueller presented an honorary Special Agent badge to Zimbalist.
3Close friends with then-FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover, Zimbalist ended many Quinn Martin productions on Sunday nights with a description of a fugitive wanted by FBI agents, exhorting viewers to be on the lookout. One of the more prominent names from this segment was James Earl Ray, assassin of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
4Zimbalist died on May 2, 2014 from natural causes at the age of 95, outliving his father's age of 94 by one year. His daughter Stephanie announced the news saying he was 95 years old, a devout Christian. He actively enjoyed his life to the last day, showering love on his extended family, playing golf and visiting with close friends.
5He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7095 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on February 1, 1994.
6Occasionally, he does voice-overs, reading Biblical verses, for the Trinity Broadcasting Network, as a commercial-break starts or concludes. [February 2007]
7Came out of retirement to act with daughter Stephanie Zimbalist in a stage production of "Night of the Iguana" in Ventura, California. [October 2004]
8Is a staunch conservative Republican.
9Has played the same character (Alfred Pennyworth) on five different series: Batman: The Animated Series (1992), Superman (1996), The New Batman Adventures (1997), Static Shock (2000) and Justice League (2001).
10Younger stepbrother of Marcia Davenport.
11Children from his marriage to Emily McNair: Nancy Zimbalist and Efrem "Skip" Zimbalist III.
12His father was Russian-born and his mother was Romanian-born; both were from Jewish families. Zimbalist was an early practitioner and proponent of Transcendental Meditation, as taught by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, prior to his conversion to Christianity.
13In 1935, after accompanying his father on a concert tour of the Soviet Union, he was enrolled by his parents to a boarding school in Kiev, while they visited western Europe. Expected to learn piano in a class of wonderkinds, he was rather handicapped, for the classes were taught in Ukrainian - a language he did not know. He eventually ran off to Moscow, where his elder sister had been lodged with a family. After spending a bad winter in Moscow, (they only had their summer clothing, at the time). He and his sister hid the last of their money in the bottom of a cold-cream jar to prevent confiscation by Russian border officials, and they escaped from Moscow, by train to Paris.
14He was severely wounded during his World War II service, at Huertgen Forest.
15Son of violinist Efrem Zimbalist Sr. and opera singer Alma Gluck.
16Father of Stephanie Zimbalist.
