In her third year in Delaware, she was the top scorer of the nation, finishing the season with an average of 28.1 points per game. In the 2012-2013 season, Delle Donne continued struggling with Lyme disease, lost several games because of this, however, she was able to be a leader in points and rebounds in this season. In autumn 2012, Elena obtained her degree in Human Services from the University of Delaware.

For the talent shown in college, her name was shuffled as one of the top three choices for the WNBA draft in 2013, and so it proved as Delle Donne was chosen second in the first round by the team of Chicago Sky.
