Born in Cortlandt Manor, New York, Brand played basketball at a very early age. During his high school years in Peekskill High School, he joined the school’s varsity team, and his performance led his team to two state championships. He left Peekskill with 40 points and 20 rebounds per game, and bagging the award of New York State Mr. Basketball.
After high school, Brand decided to study at Duke University where he once again dominated the basketball team. During his short stint with the team, he was named the consensus National Player of the Year. However, after his sophomore year he decided to enter the NBA Draft in 1999 and was selected number one by the Chicago Bulls; this started his professional career and his net worth.
With the Bulls, Brand was the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2000, sharing the award with Steve Francis, but after playing only two seasons with the Bulls, he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Brand played with the Clippers until 2008, during which time he became part of the All-Star team in 2002 and 2006, in the process keeping Elton at the Clippers by out-bidding the Miami Heat with an $82 million six-year; an ruptured Achilles tendon restricted his 2007-08 season, after which he was transferred to the Philadelphia 76ers, and although he endured career-threatening shoulder surgery, he was able to move forward and played with the team until 2012.
In 2012-13, Brand played with the Dallas Mavericks after leaving the Sixers, but after a disappointing season he moved again, to Atlanta Hawks, where he played for two sub-par years. In August on 2015, he announced his retirement. Despite his many transfers, his consistent performance and experience with various teams ultimately helped in his career and raised his net worth.
In 2016, Brand came out of retirement and played for the Philadelphia 76ers again, but decided to retire once and for all in October 2016.
After his playing years, Brand was then named development consultant of the 76ers. He also started his own foundation, the Elton Brand Foundation in which they help finance projects in places like Illinois, New York, and North Carolina.
In terms of his personal life, Brand is with Seneca ShaHara Simmons, whom he met in college and married in 2006; they have a son, Elton Peace Brand.
