Lynch was an avid reader of “Harry Potter” books at a young age, and became such a fan of the series that she wrote to author J.K. Rowling expressing her appreciation. She attended Cartown National School and then later Our Lady’s College. Later on, she would study at the Centre for the Talented Youth of Ireland, focusing on drama and speculative fiction.

One of the reasons she was cast for the role of Luna Lovegood was her obsession with the “Harry Potter” series. Though she already knew J.K. Rowling before being cast, the author did not know that she was given the role of Luna until she was already cast by the producers. Evanna appeared at the open audition in London, and did a screen test with Daniel Radcliffe. She had no previous professional acting experience prior to the role, and only limited experience while at school. Her first appearance was in “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”, and the film would become a huge success with critics giving Lynch considerable acclaim.

She would reprise the role in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”, and her performance would earn her several nominations. She then appeared in the final two films “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” parts one and two, and also worked on the video games of the “Harry Potter” films she was a part of. The final film of the “Harry Potter” franchise would become the fifth highest-grossing film of all time and Evanna continued to rack up good reviews from the critics. According to Rowling, Lynch’s portrayal of Luna Lovegood had a lot of influence on how the character would be written later on.

After “Harry Potter”, Lynch would appear in the first season finale of “Sinbad”. She would then make a few independent films including “G.B.F” which aired in 2013, plus becoming involved in stage productions such as “Houdini” and “Dynamite: A Cautionary Tale”. Her first lead role came in 2015, in the film “My Name is Emily”.

Aside from acting, Evanna is responsible for designing many of the accessories seen in the “Harry Potter” films. She would also be featured in magazines such as “Runaway” as she did modelling work.

For her personal life, it is known that Lynch is dating Robbie Jarvis who was her co-star in “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”. She previously had anorexia nervosa which kept her in rehabilitation clinics for two years before she was cast for her role as Luna Lovegood. Aside from that, she contributes to charity too, helping the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Ireland, and the Harry Potter Alliance (HPA).

#Quote
1[about acting with the other cast] It was this feeling the whole time like I shouldn't be here among all these stars and professionals. I was trying to keep my distance because I wanted to watch everyone. But they want you to feel at home and be part of it, and it became normal very quickly.
2[on receiving the role of Luna] I had to keep it quiet for days and pretend everything was normal which was hard considering my dream had just come true. When I went home that day I had to study for my French test as if everything was normal.
3On auditioning for the role of Luna - I really wanted to go, because if I didn't I never would have known, and I'd have been annoyed with myself. They had to pick someone, so why couldn't I have a go? It's like in the script, when Harry's trying to encourage some students to be in Dumbledore's Army, he says, "Think of all the great wizards in history, and if they can do it, why can't we?" It was kind of like that.
4[on her parents' feelings about her audition for the role of Luna in the Harry Potter films] "Well, my Mum didn't want me to go. She thought I didn't have a hope. And then I told my Dad and he thought I should go because he knew I really wanted it, so he brought me."
5[on why she loves the Harry Potter novels] Sometimes I'm stressed and I'm sick of things and I need to forget about them for a while, so in Harry Potter you're taken to this wonderful imaginary world where everything is so different. But also the main characters are completely real and modern so you can relate to them.
6[on why she is similar to her character Luna] People like her because she's like a breath of fresh air because in the fifth book it gets so dark and Harry's always cross. And then every time Luna comes in all the tension goes and she makes you laugh because she's so funny and really honest. I don't know how much I'm like her, there are some similarities but I'm more determined than her.
7[on her sudden fame] It was mad. I went into school and all of my Year were at the windows and they were all waving when I came in. And then all these camera people starting coming into the school and all the other girls were outside waving and I stayed inside and they didn't notice me. I think they had dyed my hair at that point so it was different and I had to have security people.
