Francois-Henri Pinault was born on 28 May 1962, in Rennes, France, and is a businessman, best known to be the CEO of Kering, the son of the company founder Francois Pinault, and is also the director of Financiere Pinault. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

Francois attended the HEC School of Management and graduated in 1985. He then completed his military service in the French Consulate Economic Expansion station in Los Angeles. While doing military service, he was in charge of studying new technology and fashion sectors.
In 1987, Pinault joined PPR and became the manager of the buying department the following year. In 1989, he became the chief manager of France Bois Industries, and after a year he also became the head manager of Pinault Distribution. Eventually, he was appointed as the CEO of CFAO which was a subsidiary in Africa, specializing in medicine and cars. In 1997, he then became the CEO of FNAC and would become the vice-president of their internet branch three years later. Francois then became instrumental in launching PPR Interactive which focused on new technology.
In 2001, Pinault became part of the Kering Security Board, and served as the vice-president of the board until 2005. During this time, he was given presidency of Artemis, which was the controlling shareholder of the group. After leaving the board, he became the CEO and chairman of Kering (renamed PPR). Two years later, he became the president of Puma’s executive committee, which was one of the newest acquisitions of the group. He then started a luxury goods branch of Kering in 2011; during this time, they started to sell Redcats, FNAC, and Conforrama to further their intentions with the luxury, lifestyle, and sports sectors. One of his latest acquisitions is Volcom which was acquired in 2011.
For his personal life, it is known that Pinault married Dorothee Lepere in 1996 and they have two children. The couple divorced in 2004, and the following year he dated supermodel Linda Evangelista – the two would become heavily involved in a child support agreement which is called the largest support order in the history of family court at $46,000 per month; the two eventually settled out of court. In 2006, he dated actress Salma Hayek and they had a daughter – they were engaged but called it off in 2008. They then reconciled and married in 2009, renewing their wedding vows three months later in Venice.
Pinault also does a lot of philanthropic work, including launching the Kering’s Corporate Foundation for Women’s Dignity and Rights. He is also a supervisory board member of the NGO ELA which does research on leukodystrophy. In 2009, he financed a documentary entitled “Home”, which is about ecology.
