Frank is one of five children born to a Jamaican father and Dominican mother. He grew up in Wandsworth, South West London.

He turned professional in 1982 at Royal Albert Hall, London, England against Mexican boxer Lupe Guerra. Frank finished the fight in the first round by a knockout and in the next two years fought 20 more times to amass a perfect score of 21 victories. On his way, Frank defeated such boxers as George Scott, Rudy Gauwe, Scott LeDoux, Floyd Cummings and Juan Antonio Figeroa. Frank suffered his first defeat on the 13th May 1984, when he fought James Smith, but soon enough bounced back and lined up seven consecutive victories, which included a victory over Anders Eklund at the Wembley Arena, London, for the European heavyweight title. Encouraged by his success, Bruno then took a shot at the WBA heavyweight title, however, this time Wembley didn’t bring him luck, as he lost to Tim Witherspoon by technical knockout in the 11th round. Although he was brought down, Frank wasn’t discouraged, and continued with his career, taking another shot at the title, this time against the celebrated Mike Tyson for the undisputed champion title. Unfortunately, Frank lasted only five rounds and Mike retained his heavyweight title. Four years later, Frank challenged Lennox Lewis for the WBC heavyweight title; the match was held at Cardiff Arms Park, Cardiff, Wales and the two Britain boxer faced off. Frank led in points the whole match, however, Lewis brought him down at the end of the seventh round, leaving Frank again without a win in a heavyweight title match.

Frank then defeated Jesse Ferguson, Rodolfo Marin, and Mike Evans, before he challenged Oliver McCall for the WBC heavyweight title. This time, Frank was victorious, winning by unanimous decision, but his reign lasted only five months as he lost the title in his next match to Mike Tyson. He left the ring with an eye injury and according to doctors could have lost his sight if he had continued to fight. As a result, Bruno retired not long after the fight.

For his contribution to boxing, Frank was made Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1990, while in 2003 he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York, USA.

He has remained a celebrity long after his retirement, and has started an acting career, appearing in such productions as “The Calcium Kid” in 2004, and “Cass” in 2008.

Regarding his personal life, Frank was married to Laura Mooney from 1990 to 2001; the couple had three children before divorcing. He also has a daughter with Yvonne Clydesdale, born in 2006. He has had some problems with depression, but appears to have come through this period.

Frank is a big fan of soccer teams Aberdeen and West Ham United. He is still active, and has run several marathons and half marathons.
