Kubiak turned pro when he was selected by the Denver Broncos as the first pick in the eighth round (197 overall) of the NFL Draft in 1983 – the same year when legendary John Elway was picked by the Broncos too. During his professional playing career, which officially ended in 1991, Kubiak served as Elway’s backup, taking part in two Super Bowls in 1987 and 1990, both of which the Broncos lost.
