Gary started performing at a young age, and his first performance was during a play at his church. He attended Olentangy High School, and after matriculating went to Ohio State University. After graduating, he worked at the Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, but he was prompted by his second cousin Jay DeMarcus to start a band, which led him to move to Nashville. Eventually, they would meet Joe Don Rooney who would become their guitarist. With the chemistry built up by the three, they would eventually perform together as the Rascal Flatts.
LeVox would become the lead vocals of the trio, while Jay DeMarcus played either the bass guitar or keyboards. Rooney would be their electric guitarist and would also sing background vocals. In 2000, they signed with Lyric Street Records which was a part of the Disney Music Group; all of the albums they released with the record company have been certified platinum or higher. Their first, self-titled album had a huge amounts of success, which significantly increased Gary and the other’s net worth quickly. They continued their rise in the industry with “Melt”, “Feels Like Today”, “Me and My Gang”, and “Still Feels Good”. Eventually, Lyric Street Records closed, and they then moved to Big Machine Records. Since then, they have made three albums with the latest released in 2014 entitled “Rewind”.
13 of Rascal Flatts 25 singles have reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot Country Songs or Country Airplay, one of their most popular being “Bless the Broken Road”, a cover of Marcus Hummon’s, which spent five weeks at the top of the charts in 2005. Another hit song they released was “What Hurts the Most”, which peaked at number six in the Billboard Hot 10, the popularity of both songs helping Gary gain a significantly higher net worth.
For his personal life, Gary married Tara Vernon in 1999 and they have two daughters; the couple met backstage at a gospel festival concert. It is known that LeVox is good friends with Jamie Foxx, who is even heard as a guest on the Rascal Flatts album “Still Feels Good”. Gary has several social media accounts.
