Although born in Phoenix, Arizona, Greg was raised in San Carlos, California, a suburb of San Francisco, where he attended San Carlos High School. He later enrolled at the College of San Mateo, and during his schooling founded the comedy duo “Proops & Brakeman”. Proops later took courses in acting and improvisation at San Francisco State University, although he never graduated. After college, Greg joined an improvisation group with Mike McShane, and both were eventually put on “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”, and lived in London for four years while doing the show. He then appeared in every episode of the “Drew Carey’s Green Screen Show”, which was influenced by “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”. His net worth was well established.

Proops was featured in the 2011 new series “Drew Carey’s Improv-A-Ganza”, and did a week on Royal Caribbean’s liner Freedom of the Seas with the Lewis Black Comedy Cruise Tour the same year, then in July 2012, Greg started appearing in “Trust Us with Your Life”, a new improvisation show on ABC.

During his career, Proops has performed his stand-up acts throughout the world, and some of his other notable credits include hosting “Space Cadets”, and appearances on BBC2’s “Mock the Week”. Proops also has a radio career, hosting a weekly radio program and talk show at the “Largo” in Hollywood, and also played the title role in BBC Radio 4’s series “Seymour the Fractal Cat”.

In May 2015, Greg released a non-fiction book “The Smartest Book in the World” which is based in part on his weekly podcast “The Smartest Man in the World”.
